\"Earth<\/a>Earth Day<\/strong> 2020 is Wednesday, April 22!<\/strong> This year is the 50th anniversary<\/strong> of Earth Day. The theme for Earth Day\u00a02020 is\u00a0climate action<\/a>.<\/strong> On the global holiday\u2019s 50th anniversary, the U.S. has one of the highest rates of climate change deniers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0survey<\/a> conducted by the Pew Research Center<\/a><\/strong>, the percentage of U.S. adults who say global climate change<\/a> is a major threat<\/strong> has risen from 44% to 60%<\/strong> since 2009. Statista<\/a><\/em> reports<\/a>, there\u2019s a large chasm between Democrats and Republicans in their increased awareness.<\/p>\n

\"Climate<\/a><\/p>\n

Democra<\/strong>t respondents who say global climate change is a major threa<\/strong>t went from 61% in 2009 to 88%<\/strong> in 2020.\u00a0Republicans<\/strong> who say global climate change is a major threat only increased from 25% to 31%<\/strong> in 11 years. That change isn\u2019t considered statistically significant according to Statista.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Science<\/a><\/p>\n

Despite increased overall awareness, the politicization<\/a> of climate change has gotten worse. We are in an era when pretty much all science is under attack<\/a> by populist leaders<\/strong>.\u00a0Laws inspired by that first Earth Day are under threat of dismantlement<\/a> by the current president<\/a><\/strong>. Trumpie\u00a0has criticized climate scientists<\/strong><\/a> and downplayed the risks of climate change<\/a>. Most Republican lawmaker<\/a>s<\/strong> continue to avoid the subject when not parroting the party line<\/strong> that businesses and industries are hobbled by climate-friendly policy and regulations.<\/p>\n
