World data backup day is a time to remember to backup the data on your computer, your phone and other mobile devices. What is the value of the new business plan you spent three months writing? The music and movies you have on your devices? The cute video of your kid&#8217;s trip to the beach or your puppy being a goof? The primary purpose of a data backup is to <strong>have a recovery plan<\/strong> should the primary data become inaccessible. It is common to keep backups offsite like online or, <em>at the very least<\/em>, on a second hard drive, even another internal one.<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h3 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-24\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block tech-sc-block-heading mntl-sc-block-heading\"><span class=\"mntl-sc-block-heading__text\">Your data backup options<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<p>There a 2 types of cloud services to hold you data backups. The first is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifewire.com\/what-is-cloud-storage-2438541\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\"><strong>cloud storage service<\/strong><\/a> for keeping your data safely backed up online. A cloud <em>storage\u00a0<\/em>service a place to selectively upload important files that you need to keep off of your physical device.<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@maxsmith962\/how-to-backup-files-in-your-laptop-2dd3e5fb737a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-113670\" title=\"Your data backup options\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/backup-1.jpg?resize=351%2C117&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Your data backup options\" width=\"351\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/backup-1.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/backup-1.jpg?resize=150%2C50&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/backup-1.jpg?resize=75%2C25&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>If you are a Microsoft 365 customer &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/microsoft-365\/onedrive\/online-cloud-storage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">OneDrive<\/a> cloud back up is included in most plans.<\/p>\r\n<p>If you prefer Google, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Google Drive<\/a> is a cloud backup option to investigate.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">iCloud<\/a> is cloud storage for Apple devices.<\/p>\r\n<p>There are\u00a0lots of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifewire.com\/free-cloud-storage-1356638\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">other cloud storage services to pick from<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p>Some argue that using these services gives the tech-titans more access to your data. If that concerns you there is a second option.\u00a0 <strong>Cloud <em>backup\u00a0<\/em>services<\/strong> let you backup data automatically and on a schedule. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/best-picks\/best-cloud-backup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">many Cloud Backup services<\/a> to chose from as well.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bytefusion.com\/products\/ens\/secexgate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-116539\" title=\"encryption\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Data_Encryption-3.png?resize=111%2C63&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"encryption\" width=\"111\" height=\"63\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Data_Encryption-3.png?w=253&amp;ssl=1 253w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Data_Encryption-3.png?resize=150%2C85&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Data_Encryption-3.png?resize=75%2C43&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 111px) 100vw, 111px\" \/><\/a>When backing up to the cloud be sure you understand level of <strong>encryption<\/strong> they offer. When you encrypt data, you encode it so only authorized people can read it. It is up to you to keep your backup secure. <strong>Use a strong password and choose the 448-bit option<\/strong>, the maximum encryption offered by many providers. It would take a computer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifewire.com\/online-backup-faq-2617892\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>millions of years<\/em> to crack the encryption<\/a> and gain access to your data.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<h3 id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-45\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\">Don&#8217;t forget to test your data back up<\/h3>\r\n<div>\r\n<p>Remember that you haven\u2019t really backed anything up unless you can restore it.<\/p>\r\n<p>Many people are unable to restore their data backup because they forgot or <strong>lost their decryption password<\/strong> \u2013 Keep it somewhere secure &#8211; But <strong>not in your back up<\/strong>. Or they never did a <strong>practice restore<\/strong> so they simply weren\u2019t practiced enough in using their tool to use it reliably &#8211; when the pressure was on.<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-45\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"><em><strong>rb-<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n<p><em>Whether to a USB drive, an external drive, the cloud or a private server, backup all that important data somewhere safe.
