After a year of working from home, employers have decided that the Covid-19 pandemic is over. Despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2021\/05\/21\/pandemic-productivity-boom-us-economy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">increased productivity<\/a> WFH has created, the bosses want us to return to the office. Many employees do not want to return to the office. Being <strong>forced to return to the office<\/strong> is creating <strong>stress and anxiety<\/strong> among employees.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/WFH_COVID_virus.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-114951\" title=\"uncomfortable with in-person interaction\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/WFH_COVID_virus.jpg?resize=111%2C71&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"uncomfortable with in-person interaction\" width=\"111\" height=\"71\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/WFH_COVID_virus.jpg?resize=150%2C96&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/WFH_COVID_virus.jpg?resize=75%2C48&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/WFH_COVID_virus.jpg?w=546&amp;ssl=1 546w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 111px) 100vw, 111px\" \/><\/a>Many employees have lingering worries about the virus. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/news\/press\/releases\/stress\/2021\/sia-pandemic-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> released by the American Psychological Association found that 48% of vaccinated <strong>workers are uncomfortable<\/strong> with in-person interaction. Another return to the office concern is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/06\/14\/anti-vax-groups-covid-victories-493482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">anti-vaxxer<\/a> co-workers<\/strong>. After all, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/06\/22\/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">only 45%<\/a> of U.S. residents have completed their vaccination \u00a0A Harvard Business School <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/health\/over-80-of-workers-dont-want-to-go-back-to-the-office-full-time-survey-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">survey<\/a> found that 71% of workers would prefer to wait until <strong>everyone is fully vaccinated<\/strong> before returning to the office. More than half of those surveyed also still expect to social distance inside the office.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<h3>Return to the office angst\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<p>For many, the return to the office angst is the result of potential <strong>pandemic-induced changes to our brains<\/strong>. Normally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplypsychology.org\/amygdala.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>amygdala<\/strong> region of the brain<\/a> &#8211; that processes emotions, signals when a <strong>potential threat<\/strong> is present. Usually, the signal is tied to a negative emotion such as fear or anger, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/business\/covid-jobs-reopening-anxiety-return-20210606.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">explained<\/a> Crystal Reeck, an assistant professor at Temple University\u2019s Fox School of Business. That <strong>triggers a fight-or-flight response<\/strong>. \u201c<em>Think about it as an alarm system,<\/em>\u201d she said. \u201c<em>It helps draw your attention to a threat in the environment.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/neurocritic.blogspot.com\/2017\/12\/amygdala-stimulation-in-absence-of.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-117076\" title=\"During the lockdown the amygdala may have gotten rewired\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lizard-Brain.jpg?resize=111%2C110&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"During the lockdown the amygdala may have gotten rewired\" width=\"111\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lizard-Brain.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lizard-Brain.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lizard-Brain.jpg?w=320&amp;ssl=1 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 111px) 100vw, 111px\" \/><\/a>Ms. Reeck warns, that during the lockdown, the amygdala may have gotten rewired. Your brain may classify events like a <strong>co-worker coughing<\/strong>, or standing <strong>closer than six feet<\/strong>, or not wearing a mask as a threat. She explained, \u201c<em>That\u2019s helped keep us safe when we were supposed to quarantine and maintain a social distance.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\r\n<h3>Return to work steps<\/h3>\r\n<p>To reduce your return to work angst, here are five tips to help you prepare physically and mentally for that <strong>psychologically jarring first week back at the office<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>1 -Adjust your sleep schedule<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\">Three weeks before returning to work, gradually adjust your sleep schedule. During the lockdown, many of us stayed up later to binge-watch the latest thing. No more binging, Go to bed earlier, so you can wake up earlier. We had the flexibility to roll out of bed five minutes before start time \u2026 no pants or shoes needed. Most workers have at least a 20-minute commute, plus a more appropriate grooming schedule, so leave yourself at least 40 minutes plus your commute time.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalisland.net\/health-guide\/what-is-snoring-and-how-do-we-combat-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-112018\" title=\"adjust your sleep schedule\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sleeping-and-Snoring-2.gif?resize=110%2C80&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"adjust your sleep schedule\" width=\"110\" height=\"80\" \/><\/a>Why three weeks? Experts say that a <strong>new habit takes a minimum of three weeks<\/strong> to form. So go to bed a few minutes earlier in the evening. Then get out of bed a couple of minutes earlier in the morning. Increase the time every few days until you are back on the office schedule.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>2 &#8211;<\/strong> <strong>Re-start your exercise routine<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\">Many people gained the infamous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/lung\/news\/20210323\/lockdown-weight-gain-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">19 pounds<\/a> during the COVID-19 pandemic. Restart your exercise routine at least three weeks you return to work. Don&#8217;t head back to the gym the first week back to the office. Week one is going to be traumatic enough. Healthcare professionals emphasize starting off slowly with moderate walking, swimming, or biking.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>3 &#8211;<\/strong> Pajamas aren\u2019t appropriate for the office, and you know it.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\">Freshen up your <strong>business appropriate wardrobe<\/strong> before you return to work. Business appropriate attire matters for two reasons: First, one team member\u2019s sense of what\u2019s appropriate can be far from others\u2019 perception of the same. Second, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/dress-for-success-how-clothes-influence-our-performance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">studies over the years<\/a> have demonstrated that wearing business-appropriate clothing reminds you to work in a business-like manner\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ice_walking.png?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-115746\" title=\"Wear your work shoes around the house\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ice_walking.png?resize=95%2C84&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Wear your work shoes around the house\" width=\"95\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ice_walking.png?resize=150%2C132&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ice_walking.png?resize=75%2C66&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ice_walking.png?w=684&amp;ssl=1 684w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 95px) 100vw, 95px\" \/><\/a>In the coming weeks, <strong>put on your work shoes<\/strong>. Many of us have been living in <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210712150548\/https:\/\/www.converse.com\/shop\/p\/chuck-taylor-all-star-unisex-high-top-shoe\/M9160.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chuckie T&#8217;s<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crocs.com\/p\/classic-tie-dye-graphic-clog\/205453.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Crocs<\/a> &#8211; no more. Wear your work shoes around the house to get used to them. Give then a <a href=\"https:\/\/bespokeunit.com\/shoes\/care\/polish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">good polish<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Get a haircut<\/strong>. Feel like you\u2019re starting a new job.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>4 &#8211;<\/strong> Take control of your health. Don\u2019t expect your employer to care. Here\u2019s a short list of things to do:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/90478316\/alton-brown-has-the-best-breakdown-of-the-science-of-why-hand-washing-beats-hand-sanitizer#:~:text=Alton%20Brown%20has%20the%20scientific%20answer.%20Since%20the,reminders%20to%20wash%20our%20hands%20properly%3A%20soap%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wash your hands<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n<li>Bring a personal bottle of <strong>hand sanitizer and\u00a0cleaning wipes<\/strong> for your work area. Wash them yourself to be sure it is clean.<\/li>\r\n<li>Get a clean, new, well-fitting <strong>three-ply cloth mask<\/strong> exclusively for work that doesn\u2019t have any logos or words. Even if you don\u2019t need to wear a mask at work.<\/li>\r\n<li>Consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/wirecutter\/reviews\/best-air-purifier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">investing in an <strong>air purifier<\/strong><\/a><strong> for your cube<\/strong>. Look for one that has;\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>A five-speed model (quieter),<\/li>\r\n<li>A HEPA H13 activated carbon filter,<\/li>\r\n<li>UV LED light and Ion generator,<\/li>\r\n<li>AHAM Verified Clean Air Delivery Rate.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>5 &#8211; Avoid Sharing Materials and Supplies<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Avoid using other employees\u2019 phones, desks, offices.<\/li>\r\n<li>Avoid sharing work tools and equipment.<\/li>\r\n<li>Develop a protocol to clean and disinfect shared items.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>6 &#8211;<\/strong> <strong>Get vaccinated!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The vaccine protects everyone, including those who already got it and those who can\u2019t get it due to medical reasons.\u00a0<br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><em>Others believe bosses are just eager to regain tight control of their minions.
