The <strong>original smartphone company, initially known as <b>Research In Motion<\/b> (<b>RIM<\/b>)<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackberry.com\/us\/en\/support\/devices\/end-of-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">announced<\/a> that it is <strong>ending support for BlackBerry OS<\/strong> on January 4, 2022. The former Canadian tech powerhouse will be end support for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1. This means all non-Android based BlackBerry\u2019s will useful. The last version of BlackBerry OS was launched in 2013.<br \/><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackberry.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-122219 size-thumbnail\" title=\"BlackBerry logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/logo_bb.jpg?resize=75%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"BlackBerry logo\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/logo_bb.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/logo_bb.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/logo_bb.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackberry.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BlackBerry<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-BB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BB<\/a>), was the most popular smartphone brand before the iPhone. It was an icon beloved by wall-street types as they clutched the <strong>smartphone with a keyboard and trackball<\/strong>. It was dubbed <strong>CrackBerry<\/strong> hinting at how dependent people were on them. POTUS Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220506170320\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/01\/23\/us\/politics\/23berry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">refused<\/a> to give his up when he entered the White House in 2009. BlackBerry&#8217;s appealed to professionals who wanted the flexibility of <strong>work from anywhere<\/strong> before the pandemic.<\/p>\r\n<h3>The last BlackBerry original smartphone<\/h3>\r\n<p>BlackBerry stopped shipping phones and tablets with its own software years ago. The <strong>last device to run BlackBerry OS<\/strong> was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2015-05-11-blackberry-leap-review.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BlackBerry Leap<\/a>, <strong>introduced in 2015<\/strong>. BB jumped on the Android bandwagon in 2015. The firm continued to l<strong>icense its brand to phone manufacturers. <\/strong>Licensees included <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220212070027\/https:\/\/www.tcl.com\/global\/en\/mobile-devices-list.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TCL<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidpolice.com\/the-5g-blackberry-is-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">OnwardMobility<\/a>, an Austin, TX-based startup, for a 5G Blackberry device running on Android software. It has previously promised a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.blackberry.com\/en\/2020\/08\/onwardmobility-announces-licensing-agreement-with-blackberry-to-deliver-blackberry-5g-smartphone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">5G BlackBerry device<\/a> in 2021, but it&#8217;s now since it&#8217;s 2022 &#8211; there are <strong>doubts it will ever be released<\/strong>.<br \/><br \/>Until now <strong>you could hack an older BlackBerry phone<\/strong> running BlackBerry OS to maintain limited capabilities. With some work <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-112901\" title=\"BlackBerry Curve\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/blackberry-curve-8320.gif?resize=76%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"BlackBerry Curve\" width=\"76\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/blackberry-curve-8320.gif?resize=57%2C75&amp;ssl=1 57w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/blackberry-curve-8320.gif?resize=113%2C150&amp;ssl=1 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 76px) 100vw, 76px\" \/>you With some work you could:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Connect to the internet over Wi-Fi and mobile data;<\/li>\r\n<li>Make phone calls, Including 9-1-1 emergency calls; and<\/li>\r\n<li>Send SMS.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>All that is over. BlackBerry says Wi-Fi and mobile data might become unreliable.
