Between cold temperatures, early sunsets, and holiday shopping stress, there are plenty of <strong>people who feel a bit Grinchy<\/strong> this time of year. <a href=\"https:\/\/financebuzz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><em>FinanceBuzz<\/em><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/financebuzz.com\/grinchiest-cities-in-the-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">looked<\/a> at the grinchiness of cities across the U.S.. The Big Apple has America&#8217;s lowest rates of holiday decoration shops, Christmas tree lots gift shops, and food banks. Additionally, only 23.3% of New Yorkers volunteer annually \u2014 the fourth-lowest percentage in the country.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Los Angeles is only slightly less Grinchy<\/strong> than the Big Apple. LA features just 2.4 shopping centers per 100,000 people \u2014 the lowest rate in the country. The percentage of Angelenos that volunteer is among the lowest in the country. The percentage of LA denizens that donates at least $25 to charity annually is in the bottom 10.<br \/><br \/>Just a few hours from Grinchy NYC, the two cities with the <strong>most holiday cheer. Hartford, Connecticut, and Providence, Rhode Island<\/strong> finished high in holiday metrics like the number of ice rinks, Christmas tree lots, gift shops, holiday festivals and events.<\/p>\r\n<h3>What is Detroit&#8217;s Grichiness?<\/h3>\r\n<p><strong>The Motor City<\/strong> scored just below average for holiday grinchiness. Motown\u2019s overall score grinchiness score is 44.5. The holiday season of giving score includes:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Number of food banks.<\/li>\r\n<li>Number of homeless shelters.<\/li>\r\n<li>Percentage of the population that volunteers annually.<\/li>\r\n<li>Percentage of the population that donates at least $25 to charity annually.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The Motor City ranked number 19 on <strong>communal celebrations and decor<\/strong> with an 8.3 result. The communal celebrations and decor score includes the number of:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Holiday events and festivals.<\/li>\r\n<li>Ice-skating rinks.<\/li>\r\n<li>Holiday decoration shops.<\/li>\r\n<li>Christmas tree farms\/lots\/shops.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Detroit scored 5.7 points in the <strong>holiday shopping. <\/strong>That was only good enough to be ranked 26. The holiday shopping score is made up of the number of holiday markets, toy stores, gift shops, department stores, shopping centers and malls.<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/clipart-library.com\/clipart\/n1180541.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-126629\" title=\"holiday jeer\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/scrooge.jpg?resize=79%2C110&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"holiday jeer\" width=\"79\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/scrooge.jpg?resize=108%2C150&amp;ssl=1 108w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/scrooge.jpg?resize=54%2C75&amp;ssl=1 54w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/scrooge.jpg?w=170&amp;ssl=1 170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 79px) 100vw, 79px\" \/><\/a>The D scored 15.8 on the <strong>holiday jeer<\/strong> category. This score put Detroit in 13th place for holiday jeeriness. Holiday jeeriness was measured by looking at Google Trends score over the last five years these anti-Christmas terms; &#8220;bah humbug&#8221;, &#8220;I hate Christmas&#8221;, &#8220;Christmas sucks&#8221;, and &#8220;the Grinch.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<p>Detroit ranked very low for <strong>holiday cheer<\/strong> at 47th place, with a score of 3.8. The study look at Google Trends score for Christmas terms over the last five years. The holiday cheer phrases the searched for were:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>&#8220;Christmas Party&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<li>&#8220;Christmas Lights&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<li>&#8220;Christmas Concert&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<li>&#8220;Christmas Festival&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<li>&#8220;Christmas Market&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<li>&#8220;Christmas Dinner&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Other cities in the region
