The scammer is trying to access your bank account and looking for your personal information. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The rise in remote work and advancements in AI have made it easier for scammers to create convincing fake job listings.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"pencraft pc-reset _align-left_3axfk_10 _line-height-28_3axfk_101 _font-display_3axfk_118 _size-24_3axfk_75 _weight-bold_3axfk_168 _reset_3axfk_1\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mark Anthony Dyson has written an <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/markanthonydyson.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">interesting article<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on the <\/span><em><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/markanthonydyson.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Job Scam Report<\/span><\/a><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> about conducting a <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">safe job search<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. He warns that job scammers are <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hijacking the hiring process<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to steal personal information in the long run. However, they are also after cash in the short run. According to the FTC, the typical job scam victim in 2023 <strong>lost <a title=\"You got the job!\" href=\"https:\/\/consumer.ftc.gov\/consumer-alerts\/2023\/04\/you-got-job\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener ugc\">$2,000<\/a><\/strong>. The <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Better Business Bureau<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> reports that employment scams were the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/article\/scams\/28372-bbb-scam-alert-how-to-spot-a-job-scam-no-matter-how-sophisticated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">number one riskiest scam<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> for people ages 18-44 in 2023. Consequently, if scammers get hold of data, your future financial and employment will be adversely affected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He points out that most scams are just old scams with new layers and better disguises. The &#8220;offers&#8221; are designed to pique the interest of the receiver. The BBB <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/article\/scams\/28372-bbb-scam-alert-how-to-spot-a-job-scam-no-matter-how-sophisticated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">warns<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that if you are offered a job without a formal interview with excellent pay and benefits, it&#8217;s likely a scam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">How to stay safe:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Don&#8217;t entertain the possibilities unless you know who sent it to you. One way to verify the sender is to search for the number quickly in Google<\/span>. If the number is associated with a legitimate business, you should see that the business&#8217;s website appears in the first few results. Verify that the number shows up on that business&#8217;s website.<\/p>\r\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Job scams are easy to spot.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">False:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Job scams evolve just as the job market changes. The author points out that job scams increase when unemployment and uncertainty rise. You can be a victim more than once. Different scams can look the same. The bad guys take advantage of job seekers who are desperate and anxious; others are curious due to th<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">e<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> &#8220;desirable&#8221; opportunity they seek.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">How to stay safe:<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> You must do your due diligence and research every part of your job search to ensure the opportunity is legitimate. <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Research the person who contacted you. <\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Look them up. A quick LinkedIn <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">search should reveal if they work for the company they claim to represent.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Additionally, you can find the company&#8217;s contact information on their official website (check the URL) and contact them directly to ask if they are hiring for the position you&#8217;re applying for. You can go even further and <strong>verify the website<\/strong> at ICANN <a title=\"ICANN Lookup\" href=\"https:\/\/lookup.icann.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener ugc\">here<\/a>. Be proactive and protect your personal information.
