The trade group is Facebook users virtual currency to send letters to Congress protesting the bill. When Facebook users play a social game, like &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmville.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>FarmVille<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; or &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110819120951\/http:\/\/www.zynga.com\/games\/index.php?game=mafiawars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mafia Wars<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d the gamers get <strong>virtual currency<\/strong> in three ways:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Winning it playing the games<\/li>\n<li>Paying for it with real money<\/li>\n<li>By accepting offers from third parties who agree to give the gamer virtual currency so long as that gamer agrees to try a product or service. This is done through an &#8220;offers&#8221; provider &#8212; a middleman that brings the companies, Facebook, and the Facebook game maker&#8217;s users together.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Blue Cross Blue Shield opposition to healthcare reform<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1553 alignright\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin-left: 2px; margin-right: 2px;\" title=\"facebook\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/facebook-e1561318476336.jpg?resize=72%2C72&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"72\" height=\"72\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s this third method that an anti-reform group called &#8220;Get Health Reform Right&#8221; which is <strong>funded and directed<\/strong> by mega-insurer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcbs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Blue Cross Blue Shield<\/strong><\/a> according to<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sourcewatch.org\/index.php\/Get_Health_Reform_Right\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> SourceWatch<\/a><\/em> is using to pay gamers virtual currency for their <strong>opposition to health-care reform<\/strong>. This practice of paying people to act like political supporters is called &#8220;<strong>astroturfing<\/strong>,&#8221; because of the <strong>fake grass-roots<\/strong> campaigning. The Insurance Companies\u2019 Political Action Committee astroturfing is targeting women in their 30s and 40s and teenagers of both sexes who tend to be Facebook gamers according to <em>Business Insider.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Instead of asking the gamers to try a product, &#8220;Get Health Reform Right&#8221; requires gamers to <strong>take a survey<\/strong>, which, upon completion, <strong>automatically sends<\/strong> the following <strong>email<\/strong> to their <a title=\"United States House of Representatives\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8888888889,-77.0088888889&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8888888889,-77.0088888889 (United%20States%20House%20of%20Representatives)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Congressional Representative<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;I am concerned a new government plan could cause me to lose the employer coverage I have today. Most EULA&#8217;s are so broad, ambiguous, and slanted toward the vendor that most anything is possible. The ethics of this practice are pretty shady in my opinion. Based on the list of companies that back GetHealthReformRight.org.
