(SAIC) located to metro Detroit to build closer ties with one of its principal partners, <a title=\"General Motors\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">General Motors<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : GM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-GM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GM<\/a>), as well as some of the other North American automakers and suppliers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saicgroup.com\/English\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-108024 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Shanghai Automotive Industries Corporation USA\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/saic_logo.jpg?resize=73%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Shanghai Automotive Industries Corporation USA\" width=\"73\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/saic_logo.jpg?resize=73%2C75&amp;ssl=1 73w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/saic_logo.jpg?resize=146%2C150&amp;ssl=1 146w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/saic_logo.jpg?w=225&amp;ssl=1 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 73px) 100vw, 73px\" \/><\/a>SAIC USA Inc. expects to have 100 employees in its new 30,000-square-foot operations center in the Motor City at <a title=\"Birmingham, MI\" href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/vUqKJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">322 N. Old Woodward<\/a>, <a title=\"Birmingham, Michigan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhamgov.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Birmingham, MI<\/a>. What that means in the long-term, especially with the Chinese expected to eventually target the American automobile market, remains an unanswered question according to the blog.<\/p>\n<p>Cooperation between U.S. and Chinese automobile companies is increasingly important in the new global automotive marketplace, SAIC Motor Chairman Maoyuan Hu said in a statement. The article reports that Maoyuan said, <em>&#8220;&#8230;the opening of the new North American Operations Center in Birmingham marks an important step in creating a stronger ties between the US and Chinese automotive industries. With the increasing importance of cooperation between the major global automotive markets, this move by SAIC to strengthen its US presence is significant.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI believe SAIC USA will enhance the operation of localization in the recruitment of professional, technical and management personnel and actively expand economic and trade activities,\u201d<\/em> Maoyuan said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guides.lib.monash.edu\/foreignlaw\/china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-108027\" title=\"China\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-4.png?resize=100%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"China\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-4.png?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-4.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-4.png?w=178&amp;ssl=1 178w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a>The blog says SAIC USA\u2019s decision to expand its Operation Center in Michigan was based on a number of critical factors, including access to a highly trained workforce, proximity to key global automotive partners, especially General Motors, proximity to world-class automobile parts suppliers, and the favorable business environment in Michigan. The CEO of China\u2019s largest automaker said, <em>\u201c&#8230; we expect SAIC USA will continue healthy growth in this market and this will be a new chapter of mutually beneficial cooperation for China and the US, with the support of both countries<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan SAIC USA facility will focus on three main areas of SAIC USA\u2019s automotive business, including purchasing, logistics and technology, and engineering.<\/p>\n<p>SAIC USA parent company, <a title=\"Shanghai\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220326080753\/https:\/\/www.shanghai.gov.cn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Shanghai, China<\/a>-based SAIC Motor, is the largest automotive manufacturer in that booming country. It is also <a title=\"General Motors\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/general-motors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GM\u2019s<\/a> principal partner in <a title=\"China\" href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/WsxUZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China<\/a>, involved in a variety of joint ventures, including the original Buick assembly plant in Shanghai. Among its various operations are Shanghai GM, Shanghai VW, SAIC Motor Commercial Vehicle Company, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgmw.com.cn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">SAIC-GM Wuling Automobile<\/a> Co. In total SAIC Motor sold over 4 million vehicles in 2011 in the China market alone.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said, <em>\u201cThe company\u2019s commitment to Michigan cements our standing as the automotive capital of North America.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most analysts eventually expect a Chinese presence in the US. Whether SAIC would come to the U.S. with products of its own remains to be seen, though that\u2019s a possibility the maker isn\u2019t ready to discuss right now.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>GM makes about <a title=\"General Motors Is Making Profitable Progress in U.S., China\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyfinance.com\/2012\/05\/03\/general-motors-gm-profitable-us-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$1 billion a year in China<\/a> so it is little wonder SAIC moved into the Detroit Area.
