According to their research, there are over 10,000 identity fraud rings in the U.S., and the three-digit ZIP codes with the most fraud rings are around <a title=\"Washington, D.C.\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8951111111,-77.0366666667&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=38.8951111111,-77.0366666667 (Washington%2C%20D.C.)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Washington DC<\/a>; <a title=\"Tampa, Florida\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=27.9472222222,-82.4586111111&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=27.9472222222,-82.4586111111 (Tampa%2C%20Florida)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Tampa, FL.<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/fXTzw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greenville, MS<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/PcyPE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Macon, GA<\/a>; <a title=\"Crains Business Detroit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsdetroit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit<\/a>; and <a title=\"Montgomery, Alabama\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=32.3616666667,-86.2791666667&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=32.3616666667,-86.2791666667 (Montgomery%2C%20Alabama)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Montgomery, AL.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-108861 size-medium\" title=\"Detroit\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_skyline-4.png?resize=150%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Detroit\" width=\"150\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_skyline-4.png?resize=150%2C75&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_skyline-4.png?resize=75%2C37&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_skyline-4.png?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>The credit rating bureau says an identity fraud ring is a group of people actively collaborating to commit identity fraud. <em>Help Net Security<\/em> <a title=\"Over 10,000 identity fraud rings active in the U.S.\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130124101723\/http:\/\/net-security.org\/secworld.php?id=13967\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> this study is the first to investigate the interconnections of identity manipulators and fraudsters to identify rings of criminals working in collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>While many of these fraud rings involve two or more career criminals, surprisingly, others are family members or groups of friends. The article says that ring members operate by either stealing victims\u2019 identities or improperly sharing and manipulating personal identifying information such as dates-of-birth (DOB) and Social Security numbers (SSNs) on applications for credit and services.<\/p>\n<p>Other findings of the study include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>States with the highest numbers of fraud rings include Alabama, the Carolinas, Delaware, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas.<\/li>\n<li>While many fraud rings occur in cities, a surprisingly high number were also found in rural areas of the country.<\/li>\n<li>A large number of families are working together in fraud rings, even using each other\u2019s SSNs and DOBs. However, rings made up of friends are more common, with the majority of fraud rings made up of members with different last names.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140729132655\/http:\/\/www.talentsfromindia.com:80\/social-network-web-developers-programmers.html\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-108864\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social-Networking-Development.jpg?resize=150%2C113&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social-Networking-Development.jpg?resize=150%2C113&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social-Networking-Development.jpg?resize=75%2C56&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social-Networking-Development.jpg?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><em>\u201cIn this latest research, we have taken a broader approach, looking at connections among bad people rather than studying individual activity,<\/em>\u201d Dr. Stephen Coggeshall, chief technology officer of <a title=\"ID Analytics\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20141223060600\/http:\/\/www.crunchbase.com:80\/company\/id-analytics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ID Analytics<\/a> said in the post. &#8220;<em>This information enables us to build new variables into our fraud models so we can help our customers to make better decisions and improve protection for consumers.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ID:A Labs looked at about 1.7 billion identity risk events including applications for credit cards, wireless phones, payday loans, utilities, and other financial services credit products.
