According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helpnetsecurity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Help Net Security<\/em><\/a>, this was four days too late to prevent the tainted applications from being downloaded over 50,000 times.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3028 alignright\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin-left: 4px; margin-right: 4px;\" title=\"google\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/google-e1561916432876.jpg?resize=93%2C39&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"93\" height=\"39\" \/><\/a>In response, Google remotely executed its Android kill switch to delete the apps in question. Google is pushing an update to close the software hole.<\/p>\n<p>In an official confirmation of the incident, Rich Cannings, Android Security Lead says that Google will notify the owners of the affected devices after the malicious app(s) are deleted and the update is installed, &#8220;You are not required to take any action from there; the update will automatically undo the exploit,&#8221; he explained. <strong>&lt;\/update&gt;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.android.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Android Developers Blog<\/em><\/a>, Rich Cannings, Android Security Lead details how <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/WWW.GOOGLE.COM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASDAQ: GOOG<\/a>) can <a title=\"Wired\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131020131053\/http:\/\/www.wired.com:80\/gadgetlab\/2010\/06\/google-flips-remote-kill-switch-on-android-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">remotely remove applications<\/a> from an Android phone. The article explains how the Android Security team removed two applications that violated the Android Market Terms of Service.<\/p>\n<p>The Google article says, &#8220;.<em>..we\u2019ve also developed technologies and processes to remotely remove an installed application from devices.<\/em>&#8221;\u00a0 The article says that Google chose to remove the applications because they knew better, &#8220;<em> &#8230; we decided &#8230; to exercise our remote application removal feature&#8230;&#8221;. The master marketers at Google have spun this ability to delete any file to be a good thing.
