Microsoft is <a title=\"A Year From Now Support for Windows XP Ends, Now What?\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140227183343\/http:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/windows\/b\/business\/archive\/2013\/04\/08\/a-year-from-now-support-for-windows-xp-ends-now-what.aspx\">warning<\/a> suggesting that companies who have not migrated from Windows XP and Office 2003 start the process soon. MSFT released the OS more than a decade ago (October 2001 to be precise).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/4057281\/windows-7-support-will-end-on-january-14-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106537 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Microsoft Windows 7 logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows-7-logo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Microsoft Windows 7 logo\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows-7-logo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows-7-logo-1.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows-7-logo-1.jpg?w=170&amp;ssl=1 170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a>On their blog, <em><a title=\"Naked Security\" href=\"http:\/\/nakedsecurity.sophos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naked Security<\/a><\/em>, <a title=\"Sophos\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sophos.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sophos<\/a> <a title=\"Windows XP death watch: 365 days remaining\" href=\"http:\/\/nakedsecurity.sophos.com\/2013\/04\/08\/windows-xp-death-watch-365\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">says<\/a> that Windows XP still holds a 39% market share on the desktop. What if you are still using XP or Office 2003? Microsoft simply says it means you should \u201ctake action.\u201d There will no longer be any security updates or assisted support options, online or otherwise, through <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131228191643\/http:\/\/companies.findthecompany.com\/l\/9638071\/Microsoft-Corporation-in-Redmond-WA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of any security updates means there will be \u201cunchecked security and compliance risks\u201d as well as a lack of support and updates that keep the software compatible with the newest technologies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sophos.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106539 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Sophos logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sophos_Logo-4.gif?resize=75%2C31&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Sophos logo\" width=\"75\" height=\"31\" \/><\/a>Sophos speculates that one of the security implications of the bad guys holding onto new Windows XP exploits until MSFT stops patching XP. There&#8217;s certainly the potential for a lot of havoc if 39% of the PCs get infected by new internet-propagating worms that target Windows XP systems. Even an increase in <a title=\"Internet Explorer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windows\/internet-explorer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Internet Explorer<\/a> 8 browser exploits that could open the doors wide for all kinds of malware infections.<\/p>\n<p>It can take up to 18 months for the average medium to large business to install new programs, roll out all the updates, and import all customer data. Firms may need to upgrade their PCs and retrain their staff to use newer, more dependable Microsoft products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hubpages.com\/technology\/Computer-Virus-Dont-Panic-Beat-It-At-Its-Own-Game\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106541 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Malware\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/malware-16.jpg?resize=75%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Malware\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/malware-16.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/malware-16.jpg?w=116&amp;ssl=1 116w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/qC1JG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> says this move comes after they introduced their Support Lifecycle policy in 2002.
