The data says that the telecom&#8217;s spent the most on lobbying last year. The biggest spender was\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Verizon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.verizon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Verizon<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : VZ\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-VZ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VZ<\/a>)<\/strong> which spent $3.83 million, an increase of nearly $1 million over last year.\u00a0<strong><a title=\"AT&amp;T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.att.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">AT&amp;T<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : T\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T<\/a>)<\/strong> spent $3.47 million on lobbying.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hewlett-Packard<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-HPQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HPQ<\/a>) spent $1.6 million on lobbying in 2010, which is nearly double what it spent last year. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>),<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oracle.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oracle<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-ORCL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ORCL)<\/a>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibm.com\/us\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IBM<\/a> <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-IBM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IBM<\/a>), and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yahoo<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-umn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YHOO)<\/a> also increased the dollars spent on lobbying from 2009 to 2010. Only <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Intel<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-INTC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">INTC<\/a>) decreased its lobbying spending in 2010.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/chart-of-the-day-tech-companies-spending-on-lobbying-2010-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-106867\" title=\"Tech Spending on Lobbying 2010\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tech-companies-spending-on-lobbying-dec-2010_bi.jpg?resize=400%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Tech Spending on Lobbying 2010\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tech-companies-spending-on-lobbying-dec-2010_bi.jpg?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tech-companies-spending-on-lobbying-dec-2010_bi.jpg?resize=75%2C56&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tech-companies-spending-on-lobbying-dec-2010_bi.jpg?resize=150%2C113&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The Business Insider<\/em> points out that despite their incredible influence in the world of tech, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>) and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a><\/strong> are hardly spending anything on lobbying. The post speculates that while Apple is influential, it doesn&#8217;t dominate anything other than mp3 players, so the government has had little reason to mess with it. (Apple rules the tablet world, but that&#8217;s an 8-month-old market.) Also, Apple doesn&#8217;t do big blockbuster acquisitions that the government looks at.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook spent the least of anyone with just $120,000. The author expects this will change soon as the company&#8217;s power is growing quickly, drawing the eye of regulators.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The telecom monoliths spent $7.3 million on lobbying, which is more than HP, MSFT, Google and IBM combined what are they up to? I <a href=\"http:\/\/rbachnet.wwwmi3-ss40.a2hosted.com\/index.php\/att-the-leader-in-political-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a> about AT&amp;T&#8217;s activities previously, clearly, these firms expect something back from the politicians they <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">bribe<\/span> donate to. History has proven that the politicians on the receiving end of the <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">bribes<\/span> donations generate results for their largest contributors and not the SMB or end-user.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What do you think?
