According to <em>Dailywireless.org<\/em> if every Lipitor pill prescribed were taken, Pfizer expects that to increase its sales of the cholesterol-lowering drug by an extra $7 billion a year. Pfizer intends to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biospace.com\/article\/releases\/nanthealth-s-vitality-mobile-app-now-available-on-apple-and-android-devices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vitality<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161208180625\/http:\/\/www.vitality.net:80\/glowcaps.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GlowCaps<\/a> to grow its Lipitor business to $17 billion a year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-110299 size-full\" title=\"Pfizer logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/pfizer_logo-e1571693867335.gif?resize=84%2C52&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Pfizer logo\" width=\"84\" height=\"52\" \/><\/a>Vitality GlowCaps, are a wireless, Internet-connected bottle cap, that uses light and sound to alert users and phones home if they forget to take their medicine. Vitality and automated communication company <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140520212727\/http:\/\/www.varolii.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Varolii<\/a>, developed the GlowCap. The Glowcap has an embedded computer chip that communicates via low-frequency RF with a cellular-connected nightlight. The nightlight sends information to Vitality via a <a href=\"https:\/\/datasheets.globalspec.com\/ds\/3510\/TelitCommunicationsSpA\/C720668D-6722-4B21-80D2-BCBF62F112ED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GE864-QUAD chip<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telit.com\/health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Telit<\/a>, a leader in the machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, over <a title=\"AT&amp;T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.att.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">AT&amp;T<\/a>&#8216;s (<a title=\"NYSE : T\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T<\/a>)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/General_Packet_Radio_Service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GSM\/GPRS<\/a> network.<\/p>\n<p>If a user misses a dose, an alarm will sound that gradually escalates \u201cfrom a three-note arpeggio to an 11-note arpeggio,\u201d Vitality President Josh Wachman <a href=\"http:\/\/mobihealthnews.com\/9848\/atts-vitality-glowcaps-now-on-amazon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/mobihealthnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>MobiHealthNews<\/em><\/a>. The GlowCap can also flash a light, play a ringtone, send text messages or e-mails and even call the user\u2019s mobile phone to remind them to take their medicine. The <em>Dailywireless.org<\/em> says that if the GlowCap remains unopened long enough, a patient will receive an automated call that asks a series of questions on why they didn&#8217;t take their medicine. GlowCaps also include a button that starts a call between the user\u2019s phone and their pharmacy when the medication needs to be refilled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161208180625\/http:\/\/www.vitality.net:80\/glowcaps.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-110303\" title=\"Vitality GlowCaps\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Vitality-GlowCap.jpg?resize=54%2C95&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Vitality GlowCaps\" width=\"54\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Vitality-GlowCap.jpg?w=86&amp;ssl=1 86w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Vitality-GlowCap.jpg?resize=43%2C75&amp;ssl=1 43w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 54px) 100vw, 54px\" \/><\/a>Vitality CEO David Rose told <em>MobiHealthNews<\/em> that the company was developing an iPad app for its pharma brand managers to help them track in real-time the success of their GlowCap programs. As part of the deal, Vitality gave away iPads to any GlowCap customer.\u00a0 Mr. Rose said the freebies went to pharmacies and insurers. They distributed more than 10,000 GlowCaps to their customers. \u201cWith the secure app, they can see adherence patterns as they emerge, every day, in real-time. For example, they can see the total value higher adherence creates for the brand. The resulting cost-savings, in the case of insurers. Even how adherence varies by demographic slice or geography (media market),\u201d Mr. Rose wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The AT&amp;T cellular-enabled GlowCaps which can be bought at <a title=\"CVS\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cvs.com\/shop\/product-detail\/GlowCap-Medication-Reminder-Kit?skuId=918875\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CVS.com<\/a> but no longer at Amazon.com comes with the night-light that connects wirelessly to AT&amp;T\u2019s cellular network, a bottle cap, and a six-month subscription to the service. After six months, subscriptions cost $15 a month.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>rb-<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Talk about convergence! Mobile-to-Mobile + Connected health-care +Data protection. Any wonder why we need IPv6?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcrwireless.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RCR Wireless<\/a>, &#8220;Connected Healthcare&#8221; is a term used to describe a model for healthcare delivery that uses technology to give healthcare remotely. Connected healthcare is a sub-set of all Machine to Machine (M2M) devices which are expected to increase by 36 percent this year.
