In a recent <em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160304023933\/http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/2\/a5243058-0ee5-11e0-9ec3-00144feabdc0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Financial Times<\/a><\/em> interview with Twitter co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/Biz_Stone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biz Stone<\/a>, he revealed that in 2008, <strong>Facebook tried to buy Twitter for $500 million in Facebook stock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook saw the potential in Twitter but the Twitter big-wigs declined. Mr. Stone told the <em>FT<\/em> that Twitter wanted to become not just a popular site but a viable business, and not be taken over by another company. &#8220;We&#8217;ve created something that people are finding value in,&#8221; he told the <em>FT<\/em>. &#8220;But we haven&#8217;t yet created a business out of this, and we really wanted to do that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4954 alignright\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;\" title=\"twitter_newbird_blue\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/twitter_newbird_blue-e1563052534771-150x112.png?resize=99%2C74&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"99\" height=\"74\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/twitter_newbird_blue-e1563052534771.png?resize=150%2C112&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/twitter_newbird_blue-e1563052534771.png?resize=75%2C56&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/twitter_newbird_blue-e1563052534771.png?w=230&amp;ssl=1 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 99px) 100vw, 99px\" \/><\/a>It is possible that if Facebook had bought Twitter it would have died. As a part of Facebook, Twitter would have been restricted to only one set of users and is unlikely to have gone through its huge period of rapid growth. Its main financial power has been in business and less in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Social network service\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_network_service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">social networking<\/a> according to the <em>FT<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter had 175 million registered users as of November 1, 2010, who sent about 95 million messages a day or 25 billion &#8220;tweets&#8221; last year. Twitter has pursued rapid growth over profits, but since last spring, it has brought in advertising revenues through paid for &#8220;promoted tweets.&#8221; In mid-December, Twitter said it had received a major infusion of funds from a group of investors, which reportedly put a $3.7 billion value on the site.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Well, a valuation of\u00a0 $3.7 billion or $500 million in Facebook <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">vapor<\/span> stock seems the Twitter boys did OK for themselves. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Is Twitter worth $3.7 billion?
