Microsoft\u2019s <strong>Windows<\/strong> 8 is finally <strong>more popular<\/strong> than the reviled Windows <strong>Vista<\/strong>. Windows 8 has been available since August 2012, which means it took\u00a0<a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Microsoft<\/strong>&#8216;s<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ | MSFT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>) latest operating system nearly 11 months to surpass the highly unpopular Windows Vista.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/18581\/lifecycle-faq-windows-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-108071 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Windows 8 logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows8_logo-e1570666239613-75x59.jpg?resize=75%2C59&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Windows 8 logo\" width=\"75\" height=\"59\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows8_logo-e1570666239613.jpg?resize=75%2C59&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows8_logo-e1570666239613.jpg?resize=150%2C117&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/windows8_logo-e1570666239613.jpg?w=235&amp;ssl=1 235w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"PCWorld\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>PCWorld<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"Windows 8 finally passes Vista in OS market share\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/2043390\/windows-8-finally-passes-vista-in-os-market-share.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cites<\/a> data from <a title=\" Net Applications\u2019 NetMarketshare tracker\" href=\"http:\/\/www.netmarketshare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Net Applications\u2019 NetMarketshare tracker<\/a>, which found that <a title=\"Windows 8\" href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows 8<\/a> captured a whopping <strong>5.10 percent of all desktop systems<\/strong> the firm tracks for the month of June. Vista\u2019s market share now stands at 4.62 percent. Of course, both will need a few months (or years) before they pass <strong>Windows XP<\/strong> and <a title=\"Microsoft Windows 7\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140502225852\/http:\/\/www.crunchbase.com\/product\/windows-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows 7<\/a>, both of which dipped about half a percentage point\u2019s worth of share to finish the month with <strong>44.37<\/strong> percent and 37.17 percent, respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-108074 size-large\" title=\"Windows 8 takes the kead\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?resize=480%2C296&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Windows 8 takes the kead\" width=\"480\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?resize=75%2C46&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?resize=150%2C92&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?resize=768%2C473&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/infog_net-applications-os-share-data-100044631-orig.png?w=960&amp;ssl=1 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><small class=\"credit\">NetApplications<\/small><\/p>\n<p>Both Windows 7 and <a title=\"Windows XP\" href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/end-support-help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Windows XP\u2019s<\/a> sales are on the wane, Net Applications says, but it will be several years before Windows 8 passes them by. The article reports new momentum for Windows 8, which has struggled to lift its head above both third-party operating systems, as well as its own rivals in the Microsoft nest.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Waiting a long time\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120826084746\/https:\/\/homes.bio.psu.edu\/people\/faculty\/bshapiro\/research.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 0px none; margin-left: 2px; margin-right: 2px;\" title=\"Waiting a long time\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140802164047\/https%3A\/\/homes.bio.psu.edu\/people\/faculty\/bshapiro\/spiral-clock.jpg?resize=73%2C71&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Waiting a long time\" width=\"73\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft&#8217;s<\/a> Windows 8 passed\u00a0<a title=\"Apple Computers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple&#8217;s<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>) <a title=\"OS X Mountain Lion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/osx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Mac OS X 10.8<\/a> in February 2013. <em>PCWorld<\/em> calculates that if Windows 8 continues to increase its share at its current pace of about 0.5 percentage points per month\u2014and if Windows XP continues to decline at about the same rate\u2014Microsoft would need <strong>roughly 32 months<\/strong>, or until about February 2016, <strong>for Windows 8 to pass Windows XP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The author also reports that analytics firm <a title=\"StatCounter\" href=\"http:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">StatCounter<\/a> showed similar results in June 2013, from its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/#os-ww-monthly-201201-201307\">worldwide measurements of browser data<\/a> which confirms that Windows 8 has increased its market share over Windows Vista. StatCounter said that Windows 8 captured 6.44 percent of all PCs, versus 5.94 percent at the beginning of June. StatCounter said, however, that the versions of <a title=\"OS X\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/osx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Mac OS X<\/a> combined, at 8.52 percent, were still higher than Windows 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The good news for most in Redmond (except those who were recently <a title=\"Microsoft announces massive company-wide reorganization\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2013\/7\/11\/4486730\/microsoft-reorganization-2013-ballmer-one-microsoft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">re-org&#8217;d<\/a>) is that Windows 8 has finally gained more ground than Vista on desktops. Back in 2006, Vista had the same problem Windows 8 now has, but for different reasons. Windows Vista just did not work and now Windows 8 is confusing to consumers who don\u2019t know what to do with the \u201cModern\u201d touchscreen interface on their mouse-based systems.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/indiatoday.intoday.in\/story\/will-beat-google-in-all-markets-microsofts-steve-ballmer\/1\/199378.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-108077 size-medium\" title=\"MSFT joins the &quot;post-pc era&quot;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/steve_ballmer-talking.jpg?resize=150%2C96&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"MSFT joins the &quot;post-pc era&quot;\" width=\"150\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/steve_ballmer-talking.jpg?resize=150%2C96&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/steve_ballmer-talking.jpg?resize=75%2C48&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/steve_ballmer-talking.jpg?w=350&amp;ssl=1 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><strong>MSFT<\/strong> might be trying to kill the desktop to join the &#8220;<strong>post-pc era<\/strong>&#8221; with the Metro apps in favor of <strong>touch tablets, laptops, and phones<\/strong> it has not worked out really well so far.
