The market research firm is basing this projection on emerging <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/4G\">4G wireless services<\/a> as <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wimax\">WiMAX<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220117092148\/https:\/\/gigaom.com\/2008\/02\/26\/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-lte\/\">Long Term Evolution<\/a> (LTE). Both technologies are expected to be launched over the next four years.<\/p>\n<p>Based on Gartner&#8217;s projections, the U.S. will be in a 5th place tie worldwide with Japan for broadband penetration.
