The cloud computing center is being built in <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;source=s_q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=Langfang,+Hebei,+China&amp;aq=0&amp;sll=39.520992,116.706734&amp;sspn=0.164463,0.308647&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;hq=&amp;hnear=Langfang,+Hebei,+China&amp;ll=39.514106,116.70639&amp;spn=0.328958,0.617294&amp;t=h&amp;z=11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Langfang<\/a>, a city between Beijing and Tianjin in the new Langfang Range International Information Hub, IBM spokeswoman Harriet Ip told <em>ComputerWorld<\/em>. The complex will open in 2016 and be <strong>comparable in size to the Pentagon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110416053713\/http:\/\/www.techeye.net:80\/hardware\/china-readies-cloud-computing-city\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-103298\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hebei-data-center.jpg?resize=480%2C288&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hebei-data-center.jpg?w=508&amp;ssl=1 508w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hebei-data-center.jpg?resize=75%2C45&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hebei-data-center.jpg?resize=150%2C90&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>IBM will be <strong>supplying its data design services<\/strong>, while the Chinese firm <strong>Range Technology Development<\/strong>, (Google translation) an Internet data center services provider, founded in 2009, will also be working on the project. There will <strong>initially<\/strong> be seven low-slung data centers, spanning up to <strong>one million square feet<\/strong>, with room for three more units on either side. There are <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110416053713\/http:\/\/www.techeye.net:80\/hardware\/china-readies-cloud-computing-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that it includes a<strong> residential area,<\/strong> most likely for the staff working at the data centers. A <em>ComputerWorld<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130709170225\/http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/s\/article\/9206461\/IBM_China_based_firm_set_to_build_Asia_s_largest_cloud_computing_center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> says the facility will mainly serve government departments from China&#8217;s capital and across the country, but will also be open to banks and private enterprises.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/wikitravel.org\/en\/China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-103306\" title=\"China\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-1-e1567808075118-75x66.png?resize=100%2C88&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"China\" width=\"100\" height=\"88\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-1-e1567808075118.png?resize=75%2C66&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-1-e1567808075118.png?resize=150%2C131&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/china_map_flag-1-e1567808075118.png?w=178&amp;ssl=1 178w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a>ComputerWorld<\/em> cites <a href=\"http:\/\/www.idc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IDC<\/a> data that says despite such large-scale projects, China&#8217;s IT budget is five times lower than the US&#8217;s. IDC says China&#8217;s IT budget is growing at a higher pace than in the US. The research house days China&#8217;s full-year growth for 2011 will be $112 billion, while the US IT market will be $564 billion.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s IT industry isn&#8217;t that big at this point and &#8220;there is a lot of reliance on the vendors&#8221; to design data centers, Dale Sartor, an engineer at the U.S. Department of Energy&#8217;s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, visited about eight data centers in China last year told <em>ComputerWorld<\/em>. Mr. Sartor expects to see accelerating data center development in China, particularly involving very large centers delivering cloud services. Large data centers may soon be the norm. DoE, Sator\u00a0 says,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I got a sense that the cloud is going to be huge in China for both efficiency reasons as well as the ability to control &#8230; If everything was cloud computing and the government owns it, it&#8217;s much easier to keep your finger on the Internet and other issues than [by using] a very distributed model.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-103300 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ibm_logo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C40&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"75\" height=\"40\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ibm_logo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C40&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ibm_logo-1.jpg?w=142&amp;ssl=1 142w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a>China&#8217;s rapid IT growth has been a plus for IBM, which said its growth in that country in 2010 was up 25% over the year before. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130709170225\/http:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/s\/article\/9206461\/IBM_China_based_firm_set_to_build_Asia_s_largest_cloud_computing_center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">According<\/a> to <em>ComputerWorld<\/em>, IBM&#8217;s data-center business in China has tripled in the last four years. In 2010, China overtook Japan as IBM&#8217;s second-largest data center market, with the U.S. as the company&#8217;s number one market.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of size, the data centers will be among the world&#8217;s biggest.
