{"id":5628,"date":"2011-02-21T20:11:44","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T01:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rbachnet.wwwmi3-ss40.a2hosted.com\/?p=5628"},"modified":"2022-12-30T15:57:24","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T20:57:24","slug":"apple-disrupts-mobile-pc-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rbach.net\/index.php\/apple-disrupts-mobile-pc-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Disrupts Mobile PC Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210117085803\/https:\/\/www.old-computers.com\/museum\/computer.asp?st=1&amp;c=1065\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-104240\" title=\"Apple Disrupts Mobile PC Market\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/mobile_computer_old_school.jpg?resize=100%2C102&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Apple Disrupts Mobile PC Market\" width=\"100\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/mobile_computer_old_school.jpg?resize=148%2C150&amp;ssl=1 148w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/mobile_computer_old_school.jpg?w=295&amp;ssl=1 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a><strong>Apple<\/strong> is riding a wave of success now and is <strong>disrupting the mobile PC market<\/strong> for its competition. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpcb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KPCB<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200425233020\/https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/kleinerperkins\/kpcb-top-10-mobile-trends-feb-2011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">says<\/a> that <strong>social networking will drive the mobile PC market<\/strong> for the rest of this decade. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> has 662 million users and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> has 253 million users which will continue to grow. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techeye.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>TechEYE<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"TechEye\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110502190732\/http:\/\/www.techeye.net:80\/internet\/mobile-and-tablets-set-to-steal-pc-crown-as-soon-as-this-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">points out<\/a> that mobile products now have <strong>more processing power, improved user interfaces, and lower prices<\/strong> meaning that there are now ten times more mobile devices globally than a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodnavigator-asia.com\/Article\/2013\/02\/25\/Starbucks-still-not-sure-how-to-go-social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-104237\" title=\"social networking and mobile devices\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social_Media-Collage-1.jpg?resize=130%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"social networking and mobile devices\" width=\"130\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social_Media-Collage-1.jpg?resize=150%2C115&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social_Media-Collage-1.jpg?resize=75%2C58&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Social_Media-Collage-1.jpg?w=250&amp;ssl=1 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 130px) 100vw, 130px\" \/><\/a><em>TechEYE<\/em> says that the link between social networking and mobile devices can be seen clearly in the Japanese market where a general rise in access to social networking sites has increased, while the number of people accessing them from a traditional PC has steadily decreased &#8211; 85 percent of users accessing sites from mobile devices in the last quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Surging<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/ipad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> iPad<\/a> shipments have propelled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>) to a 17.2% share of the global mobile PC market. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200928204650\/http:\/\/itnewslink.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>ITnewsLink<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"ITNewsLink\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120118000311\/http:\/\/www.itnewslink.com\/article.php?id_article=12450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that this puts Apple at the top of the Q4\u201910 DisplaySearch market share ranking of worldwide mobile PC shipments. The preliminary results from the<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150912081541\/http:\/\/www.displaysearch.com\/cps\/rde\/xchg\/displaysearch\/hs.xsl\/quarterly_mobile_pc_shipment_and_forecast_report.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quarterly Mobile PC Shipment and Forecast Report<\/a><\/em> says Apple shipped more than 10.2 million notebook and tablet PCs combined. This was nearly a million more units than HP in Q4\u201910. <em>ITnewsLink <\/em>quotes Richard Shim, Senior Analyst at DisplaySearch on Apple&#8217;s success.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhile we anticipate increased competition in the tablet PC market later this year with the introduction of Android Honeycomb-based tablets, Apple\u2019s iPad business is complementing a notebook line whose shipments widely exceed the industry average growth rate. Apple is currently benefiting from significant and comprehensive growth from both sectors of the mobile PC spectrum, notebooks and tablet PCs. In Q4\u201910, worldwide mobile PC shipments (including tablet PCs) reached 59.6 million units according to DisplaySearch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/384832\/rims-rise-and-fall-a-short-history-of-research-in-motion\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-104243\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/rimm_logo-2.jpg?resize=100%2C32&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"32\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/rimm_logo-2.jpg?resize=75%2C24&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/rimm_logo-2.jpg?resize=150%2C49&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/rimm_logo-2.jpg?w=173&amp;ssl=1 173w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a>The drive to keep up with the Jobs&#8217;s will cause supply chain disruptions for Apple&#8217;s mobile PC competition <em>TechEYE<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110423042012\/http:\/\/www.techeye.net:80\/business\/smartphones-tablets-sink-notebook-battleship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">says<\/a>. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DigiTimes<\/a><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitimes.com\/news\/a20110217PD223.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that supplies of notebook components are running short, including CMOS image sensors, chassis, batteries, and LED&#8217;s. <em>TechEYE<\/em> sources report that touchpads are suffering the most serious shortage as a result of Apple hogging the supply from manufacturers such as Wintek and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201127205520\/https:\/\/tpk-solutions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TPK<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140704192922\/http:\/\/www.gadgets-reviews.com\/apple-creates-shortage-touch-panels.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reports<\/a> are that Apple has reserved 60% of global touchpad production capacity. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rim.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIM<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/crackberry.com\/goodbye-rimm-hello-bbry-research-motion-ticker-change-happens-monday-february-4th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIMM<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorola.com\/us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Motorola<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2011\/01\/04\/technology\/thebuzz\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MMI<\/a>), HP.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.htc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HTC<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/mobile\/galaxy-tab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samsung<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120122070555\/http:\/\/www.lg.com:80\/us\/computer-products\/netbooks\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LG<\/a>, and Dell now all have to fight it out for the remaining 40% of touchpads.<\/p>\n<p><em>T<\/em><em>echEYE <\/em>predicts that panels will be like gold dust. Bob Raikes, Managing Director at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meko.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meko<\/a>, The European Display Market Research specialist, <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110423183700\/http:\/\/www.techeye.net:80\/hardware\/apple-monopolises-global-touch-panel-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> <em>TechEye<\/em>, &#8220;<em>Touch technology also tended to limit the visual quality of the display &#8230;\u00a0 Then Apple&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/iphone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iPhone<\/a> started to use projected capacitive touch technology. which didn&#8217;t degrade the image and allowed a new level of user experience<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-104245\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/dell_logo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/dell_logo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/dell_logo-1.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/dell_logo-1.jpg?w=224&amp;ssl=1 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a>In the last year, there has been a huge swing to use projected capacitive technology in high volume portable devices, and the supply chain has struggled to catch up.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oled-info.com\/cpt-oled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chunghwa Picture Tubes<\/a> is teaming up with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131010145818\/http:\/\/www.compal.com:80\/index.php\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Compal<\/a>, one of the biggest manufacturers of laptops for multinationals, to piece together a business in touch panel glass. Compal recognizes that tablets are here to drain the world of its glass supplies and wants to capitalize.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Looks like Steve Jobs is at it again. In the past, Apple bought up flash memory stores to secure an advantage for their iPod\u00a0 MP3 players.
