They are setting up research and engineering facilities in the shadows of consumer electronics giants <a title=\"Google\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : GOOG\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>) and <a title=\"Apple Computers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>). The <a title=\"Detroit Bureau\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thedetroitbureau.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Detroit Bureau<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"Silicon Valley Comes to Detroit \" href=\"http:\/\/www.thedetroitbureau.com\/2013\/08\/silicon-valley-comes-to-detroit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">asks<\/a> if the migration be turning around? A major Silicon Valley firm, <strong><a title=\"Nvidia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/page\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NVIDIA<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : NVDA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-NVDA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NVDA<\/a>)<\/strong>, is reversing the trend by setting up a <strong>technical center in <a title=\"Ann Arbor, Michigan\" href=\"http:\/\/www.a2gov.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Ann Arbor<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131222061851\/http:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com:80\/blog\/2013\/08\/05\/go-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-104359 size-full\" title=\"NVIDIA technical center in Ann Arbor\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nvidia_mich.jpg?resize=100%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"NVIDIA technical center in Ann Arbor\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nvidia_mich.jpg?w=100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nvidia_mich.jpg?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"AnnArbor.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/ann-arbor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>AnnArbor.com<\/em><\/a> <a title=\" International computing giant NVIDIA opens new Ann Arbor Technology Center\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131026114523\/http:\/\/annarbor.com\/business-review\/ann-arbor-technology-center-with-eye-towards-automotive-market-nvidia-computer-processor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> the tech center will initially support about <strong>20 employees.<\/strong> They will be primarily dedicated to working with the local automotive community. Danny Shapiro, director of automotive for <a title=\"Santa Clara, California\" href=\"https:\/\/www.santaclaraca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Santa Clara, CA<\/a>, based NVIDIA said that more work will likely be done at the center with <strong>supercomputing<\/strong> and <strong>graphics development<\/strong>. NVIDIA VP for worldwide automotive sales and Ann Arbor site leader Phil Hughes said. <em>\u201cWe\u2019re going to have software engineers, hardware engineers and field application engineers working here as well as people on the business and marketing side.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Who uses NVIDIA<\/h3>\n<p>Mr. Shapiro said the new facility will help the company\u2019s growing team of Michigan-based engineers and executives work with automakers and suppliers. The Michigan team will develop the next generation of <strong>i<\/strong><strong>nfotainment, navigation, and driver assistance programs<\/strong>. NVIDIA points out that <a title=\"Chrysler\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chrysler.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chrysler<\/a>, <a title=\"Ford\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ford.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ford<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : F\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">F<\/a>), <a title=\"General Motors\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">General Motors<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : GM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-GM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GM<\/a>), and <a title=\"Volkswagen\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vw.com\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volkswagen<\/a> are already using NVIDIA products in their designs. NVIDIA believes having a technology center near the heart of the auto manufacturing community in Michigan makes sense.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/industry\/us-bailout-gets-halfway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-104361 size-medium\" title=\"Detroit automakers\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_3.jpg?resize=150%2C76&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Detroit automakers\" width=\"150\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_3.jpg?resize=150%2C76&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_3.jpg?resize=75%2C38&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/detroit_3.jpg?w=510&amp;ssl=1 510w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>\u201c<em>Silicon Valley is the future, Detroit is the past,<\/em>\u201d said NVIDIA&#8217;s Shapiro. \u201c<em>That\u2019s the conventional wisdom. Well, the <strong>conventional wisdom isn\u2019t quite right<\/strong>. We\u2019ve been investing in Michigan for years and we\u2019re accelerating these efforts by opening the Nvidia Technology Center.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Detroit Bureau<\/em> points out that NVIDIA isn\u2019t alone. Other high-tech firms opening centers in Southeast Michigan are <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ | MSFT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>) and Google, Mr. Shapiro noted. <em>\u201cThis is where consumer electronics and safety advancements are being made that wil<\/em>l change the driving experience for all of us,\u201d the executive told the <em>Detroit Bureau<\/em>. \u201c<em>Nvidia has been fueling this trend for years.
