Now the world has a price as well. Earth<strong>\u00a0is worth $4,800 trillion<\/strong> according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucsc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UC-Santa Cruz<\/a> Astrophysicist Greg Laughlin. Professor Laughlin developed the <strong>value for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NASA<\/a> <\/strong>to evaluate the discoveries made by NASA\u2019s planet-hunting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/kepler\/main\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kepler spacecraft<\/a>. He came up with the figure by calculating the <strong>sum of the planet\u2019s age, size, temperature, mass and other vital statistics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-99221 \" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"stack-o-money\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/stack-o-money.jpg?resize=121%2C110&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"121\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/stack-o-money.jpg?w=150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/stack-o-money.jpg?resize=75%2C68&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 121px) 100vw, 121px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">What planets are worth studying<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Professor Laughlin <a title=\"Daily Mail\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/article-1361145\/Earth-worth-3-000-trillion-according-scientists-new-planet-valuing-formula.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> the UK&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> , \u201c<em>I\u2019ve just always thought that the concept of an \u2018Earth-like planet in the habitable zone\u2019 was pretty vaguely defined,\u00a0and I wanted a metric that I could plug a planet into to see whether its value was high enough to warrant media hype<\/em>.\u201d The professor&#8217;s equation shows whether planets are worth studying, <strong>anything worth less than $97 million just isn\u2019t worth the hassle<\/strong>. The astrophysicist told the <em>Daily Mail<\/em>, &#8220;<em>The formula makes you realize just how precious Earth is and I hope it will help us as a society safeguard what we have.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Earth&#8217;s competition<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>There are about 1,235 known similar planets in the universe. Most planets weren\u2019t given a high price tag because of their inhospitable climates. The <em>Daily Mail <\/em>says\u00a0<strong>Mars is worth only\u00a0$16,361<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Venus is worth less than a penny<\/strong>. Prior to Dr. Laughlin&#8217;s work, the most Earth-like world known to scientists, was the <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/Extrasolar_planet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exoplanet<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/Gliese_581_c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gilese 581 c<\/a>.
