Microsoft is spending $7.5 million for 666,625 IPv4 addresses from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nortel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nortel<\/a> (<a title=\"OTC : NTYLQ\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKBN1582TO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NRTLQ)<\/a>. As <a title=\"Google\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : GOOG\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>) fight over Nortel&#8217;s 4G bones (<em>which I <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-1ga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> earlier<\/em>), <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210307090647\/http:\/\/downloadsquad.switched.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>DownloadSquad<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"DownloadSquad\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210125150700\/http:\/\/downloadsquad.switched.com\/2011\/03\/25\/microsoft-buys-666-624-ipv4-addresses-from-nortel-for-7-5-milli\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>) jumped all over Nortel&#8217;s stash of IPv4 addresses when they became available for purchase through bankruptcy proceedings.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6433\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;\" title=\"nortel\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbachnet.wwwmi3-ss40.a2hosted.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/nortel-300x200.jpg?resize=120%2C80\" alt=\"NORTEL\" width=\"120\" height=\"80\" \/>Microsoft ponied up $7.5 million for the Nortel pool, which works out to $11.25 per IP address. There were 13 other interested buyers, but only Microsoft and three others actually submitted bids according to <em>DownloadSquad<\/em>.
