A team from <strong><a title=\"BT Group\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">BT<\/a><\/strong> (<a title=\"NYSE : BT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:BT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BT<\/a>) and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160305080947\/http:\/\/alcatel-lucent.com\/wps\/portal?cookie_set=false&amp;country_code=us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alcatel-Lucent<\/a><\/strong> (<a title=\"NYSE : ALU\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130924081146\/http:\/\/www.stockta.com:80\/cgi-bin\/analysis.pl?symb=ALU&amp;cobrand=&amp;mode=stock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ALU<\/a>) developed new infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/home.bt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-107571\" title=\"British Telecom logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/BT_logo.png?resize=100%2C49&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"British Telecom logo\" width=\"100\" height=\"49\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/BT_logo.png?w=102&amp;ssl=1 102w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/BT_logo.png?resize=75%2C37&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a>The <em><a title=\"BBC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC<\/a><\/em> <a title=\"'Fastest ever' broadband passes speed test\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/technology-25840502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explained<\/a> that the researchers used a new <strong>\u201cflexigrid\u201d<\/strong> infrastructure. Flexigrid created an \u201c<strong>alien super channel.<\/strong>\u201d The alien super channel was made of seven 200 Gbps channels, to vary the gaps between transmission channels. Increasing the channels\u2019 density resulted in a 42.5% increase in the efficiency of data transmission compared with current networks.<\/p>\n<h3>Like adding more lanes of traffic<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p><a title=\"Kevin Drury, optical marketing leader at AlcaLu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lightwaveonline.com\/speakers\/kevin-drury.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Drury<\/a>, optical marketing leader at AlcaLu, told BBC news that the test was aimed at reducing space between lanes on a busy highway. He claims it is like adding <strong>more lanes of traffic<\/strong> to flow <strong>through the same path<\/strong>. He said that while wide lines can encompass heavy data transfers such as <a title=\"Streaming media\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Streaming_media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">streaming video<\/a>, narrow lanes would be assigned for low-data transfers such as standard web pages.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sodahead.com\/fun\/do-you-think-this-year-has-gone-really-fast\/question-791363\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-107573 size-medium\" title=\"increase in the efficiency of data transmission\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/fast-e1570320823422-150x85.gif?resize=150%2C85&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"increase in the efficiency of data transmission\" width=\"150\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/fast-e1570320823422.gif?resize=150%2C85&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/fast-e1570320823422.gif?resize=75%2C43&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The test was conducted on a 255-mile (410km) fiber link between the BT Tower in central London and BT\u2019s <a title=\"Adastral Park\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=52.0588888889,1.27888888889&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=52.0588888889,1.27888888889 (Adastral%20Park)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Adastral Park<\/a> research center in <a title=\"Suffolk\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=52.1666666667,1.0&amp;spn=1.0,1.0&amp;q=52.1666666667,1.0 (Suffolk)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Suffolk<\/a>. BT thinks it could help it to meet consumer and business demand for increased bandwidth.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Unfortunately, the <strong>mega-speed<\/strong> BT&#8217;s <strong>aliens<\/strong> developed is all backbone and <a title=\"Core network\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Core_network\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">core network<\/a> stuff. It will not change the speeds we the people will get at home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Am I the only one that has noticed that none of the new broadband speed records <a title=\"400 Gbps Ethernet Coming\" href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-aLY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">do<\/a> <a title=\"ALU Gets 31Tbps in Lab for Undersea Fiber\" href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-doI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not<\/a> <a title=\"France Gets a 400 Gbps Fiber Link\" href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-7xc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">happen<\/a> in the <a title=\"Whats a Petabit Network\" href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-fUM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S<\/a>.?
