One of the constant complaints I would get from Owners were about <strong>projector lamps<\/strong>. The Owners would inevitably complain about the sticker shock for replacement bulbs. Despite the fact, I recommended a mass purchase of replacement bulbs as part of the project. A bulk buy of 50 to 100 lamps would have saved a lot of money. Nobody wants to spend that money upfront. It&#8217;s easier to push the costs off of the capital budget into OPEX. It is <strong>somebody else&#8217;s budget<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Grey-market protector bulbs<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140428112823\/http:\/\/amiestreater.com:80\/thrifty-vs-cheap\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-107120\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/penny-pinching.jpg?resize=124%2C85&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"124\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/penny-pinching.jpg?resize=150%2C103&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/penny-pinching.jpg?resize=75%2C51&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/penny-pinching.jpg?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 124px) 100vw, 124px\" \/><\/a>This <strong>penny-foolish procrastination<\/strong> could end up costing organizations a great deal more. When a department is required to purchase its own consumable goods, they often buy the <strong>cheapest goods<\/strong> they can find and the results can be tragic. A recent example comes from <a title=\"Scotland\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=55.95,-3.18333333333&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=55.95,-3.18333333333 (Scotland)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">Scotland<\/a>. Back in May 2014, the 175-year-old <a title=\"Glasgow School of Art\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gsa.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Glasgow School of Art<\/a> (<a title=\"GSA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/The+Glasgow+School+of+Art\/@55.8659134,-4.2645055,194m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x488844265e5edf3f:0x7fc1a4d2a2a58735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GSA<\/a>) <a title=\"Charles Rennie Mackintosh\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Rennie_Mackintosh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">Charles Rennie Mackintosh<\/a> building caught fire. The blaze inside the historic building is believed to have started when a <strong>projector exploded<\/strong> in its basement <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2637430\/Firefighters-tackle-major-blaze-listed-building-leading-European-art-school-started-projector-exploded.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MailOnline.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Luckily there were no reports of serious injuries. If it turns out to be an exploding projector, the cause could have been a <a title=\"Grey market\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grey_market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">grey-market<\/a> bulb. <strong>Grey-market<\/strong> goods are often sold on dodgy websites as original equipment. They are cheaper and are often packaged in convincing counterfeited packing. <a title=\"Monoprice\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monoprice.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monoprice<\/a> had this same problem a while ago (<em>which I reported on <a title=\"Cables Carrying Fake UL Marks\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-8rU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2637430\/Firefighters-tackle-major-blaze-listed-building-leading-European-art-school-started-projector-exploded.html\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-107122\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/firefighters.jpg?resize=400%2C268&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/firefighters.jpg?w=962&amp;ssl=1 962w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/firefighters.jpg?resize=75%2C50&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/firefighters.jpg?resize=150%2C101&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/firefighters.jpg?resize=768%2C515&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In order to educate yourself, and protect your clients, projector bulb reseller &#8211; <a title=\"JustLamps.net\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justlamps.net\/ns\/default.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JustLamps.net<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0 published a website &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221205003322\/https:\/\/www.counterfeitlamps.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Counterfeitlamps.com<\/a> &#8211; which provides some pointers on <strong>how to recognize counterfeit lamps<\/strong> and what to do if you get one (or twenty).<\/p>\n<h3>Clean out the projector filters<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">T<a href=\"https:\/\/soberlystoned.wordpress.com\/digital-imaging\/collage\/concept\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Climb the ladder\" src=\"https:\/\/soberlystoned.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/12652183-side-view-of-a-businessman-climbing-a-ladder-isolated-on-a-white-background.jpg?w=200&#038;h=300&#038;fit=200%2C300&#038;resize=94%2C141\" alt=\"Climb the ladder\" width=\"94\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a>he second step to protect the installation is to service the projector. Everybody hates to climb the ladder and <strong>clean out the filters<\/strong>, but it&#8217;s got to be done. It increases the life of the lamp, so you save money by increasing the lamp life which reduces the risk of buying a counterfeit lamp and possibly burning down a building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em><strong>rb-<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>Protect your equipment (and buildings) by replacing projector lamps before they exceed their rated hours. Do not keep using it until it stops working. It could get ugly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>There are opportunities in here, many mid-high quality projectors will now generate alerts when it exceeds a number of hours.
