Some of the key products ending mainstream support include; Windows 7, Window Server 2008, <a title=\"Microsoft Exchange Server\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/exchange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Exchange 2010<\/a>, and <a title=\"Microsoft SharePoint\" href=\"http:\/\/sharepoint.microsoft.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">SharePoint 2010<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So what does Redmond <a title=\"Microsoft Support Lifecycle\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140206222055\/http:\/\/support.microsoft.com:80\/lifecycle\/default.aspx?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mean<\/a> when it ends &#8220;Mainstream Support&#8221;?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-102762\" title=\"Microsoft support\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/msft_support.png?resize=100%2C58&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Microsoft support\" width=\"100\" height=\"58\" \/><\/a>Mainstream support is the typically five-year period when Microsoft provides free patches and fixes, including but not limited to security updates, for its products.<\/li>\n<li>When a product exits the mainstream support phase, Microsoft continues to provide a period (also often five years) of extended support, which means users get free security fixes but other types of updates are paid and require specific licensing deals.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;End of support&#8221; means there will be no more fixes or patches &#8212; paid or free, security or non-security &#8212; coming for specific products. <a title=\"Microsoft warns support ending for popular Windows products\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/microsoft-warns-support-ending-for-popular-windows-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>CNET<\/em><\/a> says there are some temporary <a title=\"Here\u2019s How to Keep Getting Free Security Updates for Windows XP Until 2019 \u2013 And Why You Shouldn\u2019t\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.lumension.com\/8714\/heres-how-to-keep-getting-free-security-updates-for-windows-xp-until-2019-and-why-you-shouldnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">workarounds<\/a>, as <a title=\"Windows XP\" href=\"http:\/\/microsoft.com\/windows-xp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Windows XP<\/a> users have discovered, but as a general rule, end of support means, for most intents and purposes, the end.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/katierunsthis.com\/2011\/07\/05\/falling-in-love-with-running%E2%80%A6again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-102764\" title=\"start planning now\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/calendar.jpg?resize=136%2C90&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"start planning now\" width=\"136\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/calendar.jpg?resize=150%2C100&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/calendar.jpg?resize=75%2C50&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/calendar.jpg?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 136px) 100vw, 136px\" \/><\/a>Here are some critical (<em>or not so critical)<\/em> dates. MSFT won&#8217;t be issuing patches, updates, or fixes of any kind for that operating system (unless users have pricey Custom Support Agreements in place). No more updates. <strong>Time to upgrade <\/strong><em>(rb- if you haven&#8217;t already moved on).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>August 11, 2017<\/strong> &#8211; Extended Support ends for <strong>Exchange Server 2007<\/strong>. No more updates. <strong>Time to upgrade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 10, 2018, <\/strong>Mainstream support for<a title=\"Windows lifecycle fact sheet \" href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/lifecycle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Windows 8.1<\/strong><\/a> ends for all versions of Windows 8.
