The <a title=\"www.businessinsider.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>BusinessInsider<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"www.businessinsider.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/its-not-too-late-for-microsoft-to-win-in-tablets-heres-why-2011-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cites<\/a> a report by Citi that says despite being late into the market Microsoft can become &#8220;#2 behind iPad&#8221; for these reasons:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tablets are too expensive<\/strong> &#8211; Citi notes gadgets need to fall below $300 before they really take off. Until they reach that cost, Microsoft has time to reach people who haven&#8217;t jumped on the iPad bandwagon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Android tablets are not very good<\/strong> &#8211; Citi believes that Android tablets won&#8217;t take off like <a title=\"Google\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google\u2019s<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : GOOG\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>) <a title=\"Android\" href=\"http:\/\/www.android.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Android<\/a> Smartphones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Android faces legal challenges<\/strong> &#8211; Android tablet makers are already facing a bunch of intellectual property suits from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>), <a title=\"Nokia\" href=\"https:\/\/nokia.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Nokia<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : NOK\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:NOK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NOK<\/a>), <a title=\"Oracle\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oracle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oracle<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : ORCL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-ORCL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ORCL<\/a>), and <a title=\"www.businessinsider.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/htc-pays-microsoft-5-per-android-phone-2011-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a>. Citi thinks Microsoft is hoping for royalties of $7.50 to $12.50 per unit. That would erase some of the cost-advantage of shipping Android.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apps<\/strong> &#8211; Microsoft has an army of 6 million <a title=\".NET Framework\" href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/netframework\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">.NET<\/a> developers who could start developing touch-optimized apps for Windows tablets. Plus, Citi says Microsoft can make <a title=\"MS Office\" href=\"https:\/\/office.microsoft.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office<\/a> an exclusive for its tablet and exploit its Xbox business to offer exclusive big-ticket games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enterprise<\/strong> &#8211; IT departments already know how to deploy, update, and push apps out to Windows PCs, so a Windows-based tablet should be easier to deal with than other tablets. Microsoft will also probably make Office an exclusive to its tablets and could create a technology where a tablet can &#8220;extend&#8221; a PC by giving them access to locally stored files. Citi does note that the &#8220;bring your own device&#8221; trend might favor the iPad instead, but this trend is still in the early days and not proven.<\/p>\n<p>Citi predicts that about 75 million tablets will ship in 2013 and that Microsoft will have a &#8220;meaningful share&#8221; of those.<\/p>\n<h3>GigaTrust Brings Enterprise Rights Management To Apple&#8217;s iPhone And iPad<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140207221847\/http:\/\/www.gigatrust.com\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-108988\" title=\"GigaTrust logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/gigatrust_logo.jpg?resize=120%2C71&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"GigaTrust logo\" width=\"120\" height=\"71\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/gigatrust_logo.jpg?w=122&amp;ssl=1 122w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/gigatrust_logo.jpg?resize=75%2C44&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"www.gigatrust.com\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140207221847\/http:\/\/www.gigatrust.com\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GigaTrust<\/a>, a publisher of Enterprise Rights Management (ERM) content protection software that enhances and extend <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : MSFT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-MSFT\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>) Active Directory Rights Management Services (<a title=\"Rights Management Services\" href=\"https:\/\/secure.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/en\/wiki\/Rights_Management_Services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">AD RMS<\/a>) announced the release of the GigaTrust for iPhone and iPad mobile devices. The product consists of a client and &#8220;Mobility Server&#8221; that enables persistent content protection for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>) iPhone and iPad equivalent to that provided by GigaTrust for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rim.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research In Motion\u2019s<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/crackberry.com\/goodbye-rimm-hello-bbry-research-motion-ticker-change-happens-monday-february-4th\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIMM<\/a>) <a title=\"BlackBerry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blackberry.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">BlackBerry<\/a> smartphone and Windows Desktop according to <a title=\"www.darkreading.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>DarkReading<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reportedly GigaTrust for iPhone and iPad protects content at rest, in transit, and in use, allowing users to securely deliver and persistently protect emails while they are being read on the device. The <a title=\"www.itnewslink.com\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150905224905\/http:\/\/www.itnewslink.com:80\/article.php?id_article=12801\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a> noted by <a title=\"www.itnewslink.com\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200928204650\/http:\/\/itnewslink.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>ITnewsLink<\/em><\/a> says there has been a recent increase in the number of attacks on <a title=\"Mobile operating system\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mobile_operating_system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">mobile operating systems<\/a> like <a title=\"Google\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google\u2019s<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : GOOG\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>) Android and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple&#8217;s<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>) <a title=\"IOS (Apple)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/ios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">iOS<\/a>, and experts expect to see considerably more in the future. Despite this, users in the Kaspersky Lab survey feel more secure accessing the Internet via a mobile device.<\/p>\n<p>In the survey, users consider the risk of losing personal data lower on a mobile device than on a PC &#8211; despite the fact that around a fifth of all smartphone users has already experienced the loss or theft of a mobile device. The majority of users reported they store personal data, such as photos, emails or contact details, on their mobiles.
