However, an <a title=\"Why You Should Let Your Employees Nap at Work \" href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/236755\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> by <a title=\"Lisa Evans\" href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/author\/lisa-evans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lisa Evans<\/a> on <em><a title=\"Entrepreneur\" href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Entrepreneur<\/a><\/em> says that this attitude is changing. She writes that a trend has developed at tech companies like Google and HubSpot that encourages<strong> employee napping to recharge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150216075018\/http:\/\/livinggreenmag.com\/2013\/07\/26\/food-health\/fear-the-afternoon-energy-crash-no-more-10-tips-to-keep-you-energized\/attachment\/sleeping-work\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-106691\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nap_energypod.jpg?resize=150%2C76&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nap_energypod.jpg?resize=150%2C76&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nap_energypod.jpg?resize=75%2C38&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/nap_energypod.jpg?w=580&amp;ssl=1 580w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Google\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : GOOG\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>) was among the first large tech companies to promote napping. Apparently, the tech giant introduced energy pods. Energy pods are reclining chairs that sit inside a large bubble, They include built-in music producing soothing sounds and an alarm that wakes up nappers with lights and vibration. The author reports that <a title=\"HubSpot\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hubspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HubSpot<\/a> has a nap room. The nap room features a hammock suspended above a plush carpet and soothing cloud-covered walls. Hubspot encourages its 750 employees to catch some z\u2019s at work.<\/p>\n<p>Napping is becoming <strong>popular employee perk<\/strong> in some industries. However, the <em>Entrepreneur<\/em> article says there\u2019s still a great deal of resistance in the corporate world towards sleeping on the job. The article cites Terry Cralle, a certified sleep expert who helps companies to implement a company <strong>culture that encourages napping<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I\u2019m still surprised that people are put off by napping &#8230; We\u2019ve got great research supporting the fact that naps can help corporations and employees, yet we still feel reluctant to make it an acceptable part of a healthy lifestyle and a healthy workday.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thelonelylacuna.wordpress.com\/category\/the-thought-raft\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-106693\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/boss_angry.jpg?resize=150%2C93&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"93\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/boss_angry.jpg?resize=150%2C93&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/boss_angry.jpg?resize=75%2C47&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/boss_angry.jpg?w=422&amp;ssl=1 422w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The sleep expert says many employers and executives equate naps with slacking off. She says that couldn\u2019t be farther from the truth. \u201c<em>Some large companies have workout areas or gyms on-site and yet we\u2019re turning a blind eye to sleep and it\u2019s a biological necessity.<\/em>\u201d The article cites a <a title=\"NASA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">NASA<\/a> study that showed that <strong>a 26-minute nap can boost productivity<\/strong> by as much as <strong>34%. <\/strong>Naps\u00a0increase alertness by 54%.<\/p>\n<h3>Napping tips<\/h3>\n<p>The article <a title=\"The Truth about Napping\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151224203721\/http:\/\/articles.ogallalacomfortcompany.com\/article\/-the-truth-about-napping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Truth about Napping<\/em><\/a> provides some tips for getting the most out of your naps. They include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The best type of nap is a 20-30 minute nap best known as a <strong><a title=\"Power nap\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Power_nap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">power nap<\/a>.<\/strong> According to <a title=\"Napping may not be such a no-no\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150114160114\/http:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/newsletters\/Harvard_Health_Letter\/2009\/November\/napping-may-not-be-such-a-no-no\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harvard Medical School<\/a>, and countless other studies have shown that a power nap can <strong>increase alertness, learning, energy, and memory retention<\/strong> for up to three hours after a nap.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Webmd.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/features\/the-secret-and-surprising-power-of-naps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Webmd.com<\/a> mentions that a <strong>60-90 minute nap<\/strong> actually <strong>improves cognitive functioning.<\/strong> A <strong>30-60 minute nap can <a title=\"The Secret (and Surprising) Power of Naps\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2011\/02\/110228105308.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decrease blood pressure<\/a><\/strong> and help with memory. However, longer naps can result in more grogginess after the nap, so you\u2019ll want to find the nap length that suits you best.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No naps after 4PM.<\/strong> If you\u2019re looking to sleep well at night, try to nap midday, typically be<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150209182058\/http:\/\/fitosaur.us\/the-benefits-of-napping-at-work-728\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-106695\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sleeping-on-a-propellor.jpg?resize=150%2C102&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sleeping-on-a-propellor.jpg?resize=150%2C102&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sleeping-on-a-propellor.jpg?resize=75%2C51&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sleeping-on-a-propellor.jpg?w=554&amp;ssl=1 554w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>tween 1 and 3 PM. Napping after 4 PM can make it much more difficult to fall asleep at your usual time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nap at the same time every day.<\/strong> Our bodies love routine. By sticking to a napping schedule, you\u2019ll stay committed to good time management, train your body to nap, and enjoy all of the benefits of a power nap.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t nap in bed.<\/strong> Lying in bed is literally your pre-sleep ritual, and when you sink down into the soft mattress, you\u2019re basically telling your body that it\u2019s time to close shop for several hours. Take a nap somewhere less comfortable than your bed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>So it seems that napping is a good thing.
