The research firm reports that 2013 was a <strong>record year<\/strong> for computer and internet company spending on <strong>lobbying<\/strong> in the U.S., and 2014 is looking set to continue that trend. They presented an infographic that tracks information technology firms&#8217; money spent <del>buying<\/del>,<del> corrupting<\/del>, lobbying politicians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151031215706\/http:\/\/www.bananastravel.com\/get-european-unemployment-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106876\" title=\"record year for computer and internet company spending on lobbying in the U.S.\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/woman_money.jpeg?resize=63%2C95&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"record year for computer and internet company spending on lobbying in the U.S.\" width=\"63\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/woman_money.jpeg?resize=100%2C150&amp;ssl=1 100w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/woman_money.jpeg?resize=50%2C75&amp;ssl=1 50w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/woman_money.jpeg?w=267&amp;ssl=1 267w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 63px) 100vw, 63px\" \/><\/a>The article says that advertising, privacy, cybersecurity, <strong>patents &amp; IP<\/strong>, <strong>tax<\/strong>, <strong>immigration<\/strong>, energy, drones, and mobile payments are all issues the tech industry wants to <del>control<\/del>, <del>dominate<\/del> influence on Capitol Hill. <em>IDG&#8217;s<\/em> research says that <strong>Google<\/strong> was the biggest spender; the search giant spent $3.94M in Q3, an increase from this time last year.<\/p>\n<p><em>IDG<\/em> reports that many well-known tech firms have increased their political spending when compared to last year. They report that social networking giant\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a><\/strong> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : FB\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-FB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FB<\/a>) has already surpassed its lobbying spend compared to all of last year. Other tech mega-firms that have increased their <del>attempts to buy political power<\/del> lobbying include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Accenture\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accenture.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Accenture<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : ACN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=665717\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ACN<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Apple Computers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a><\/strong> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Amazon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AMZN\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AMZN\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AMZN<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dell.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dell<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-DELL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DELL<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"EMC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.emc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EMC<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : EMC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/dell-emc-deal-2015-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EMC<\/a>)\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yahoo<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/chart\/YHOO\/EWjh1a3K-The-last-YHOO-chart-for-posterity-hello-AABA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YHOO<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140903051145\/http:\/\/rock.genius.com:80\/571409\/John-lennon-imagine\/No-need-for-greed-or-hunger-a-brotherhood-of-man-imagine-all-the-people-sharing-all-the-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106878\" title=\"tech mega-firms have increased their lobbying\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/greed-6.jpg?resize=78%2C95&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"tech mega-firms have increased their lobbying\" width=\"78\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/greed-6.jpg?w=123&amp;ssl=1 123w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/greed-6.jpg?resize=62%2C75&amp;ssl=1 62w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 78px) 100vw, 78px\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ | MSFT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=358464\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>), historically one of the biggest spenders in this area, was one of the few companies to actually decrease its spending from this time last year, down by a quarter to $1.66M according to the report. It seems a lot of the other legacy enterprise companies are also cutting back. Other companies reducing lobbying spend compared to this time last year are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"SAP\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sap.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAP<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE | SAP\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:SAP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAP<\/a>) (down 41%),<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<a title=\"IBM\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IBM<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : IBM\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:IBM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IBM<\/a>) (28%),<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<a title=\"Intel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Intel<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : INTC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-INTC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">INTC<\/a>) (23%),<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cisco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cisco<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-CSCO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CSCO<\/a>) (18%) and<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<a title=\"Oracle\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oracle.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oracle<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : ORCL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-ORCL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ORCL<\/a>) (12%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don&#8217;t worry about the fat-cats, <em>IDG<\/em> says there are plenty of other companies also <del>lining politicians pockets<\/del> spending +\/- $1M each on lobbying including the likes of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"AMD\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AMD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AMD<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE: AMD\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNGS:AMD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AMD)<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"CA\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20171219155921\/http:\/\/www3.ca.com:80\/us\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CA<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ:CA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=8500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CA<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Cognizant \" href=\"http:\/\/www.cognizant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cognizant<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ:CTSH\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=662316\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CTSH<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Huawei\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huawei.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Huawei<\/a> (<a title=\"SHE:002502\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?q=SHE%3A002502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">002502<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"McAfee\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcafee.com\/us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">McAfee<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Salesforce\" href=\"http:\/\/www.salesforce.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Salesforce<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE:CRM\" href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=688087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CRM<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Samsung Electronics Co.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samsung<\/a> (<a title=\"KS : 005930\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/quote\/005930:KS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">005930<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Symantec\" href=\"https:\/\/securitycloud.symantec.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Symantec<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : SYMC\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-pra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SYMC<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Twitter\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : TWTR\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-TWTR\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TWTR<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li>startup <a title=\"Uber\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uber<\/a> and<\/li>\n<li>venerable <a title=\"Xerox\" href=\"http:\/\/www.xerox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Xerox<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE | XRX\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-XRX\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">XRX<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.idgconnect.com\/abstract\/9014\/infoshot-us-tech-firms-lobbying-spend-updatedhttp:\/\/www.idgconnect.com\/abstract\/9014\/infoshot-us-tech-firms-lobbying-spend-updated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-106880\" title=\"2014 Tecch Lobby Spending - Maybe if these firms paid their proper taxes they would not have so much cash to spend buying congress.
