Remember the <a title=\"LAUSD\" href=\"https:\/\/home.lausd.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angles Unified School District&#8217;s<\/a> $1.3 billion<strong>\u00a0iPads-for-all project<\/strong>? LAUSD big-wigs claimed that the <strong>Apple <a title=\"iPad\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/ipad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iPads<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>Pearson software<\/strong> would raise LA students&#8217; Common Core test scores. I covered the questionable decision <a title=\"LA iPads Hacked In A Week\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-fFY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> and <a title=\"Superintendent John Deasy\u2019s $17.5M request for computer tablet funds nixed\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-5Cs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. While the proverbial other-shoe appears to be dropping. Not only did the apparent <strong>sweetheart deal<\/strong> between the LAUSD Superintendent,\u00a0<a title=\"Apple Computers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>), and <a title=\"Pearson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pearsoned.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pearson<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : PSO\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=664805\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PSO<\/a>) cost Supt.\u00a0John Deasy his $350,000 a year job &#8211; now the Feds are involved.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151022181303\/http:\/\/jasmynecannick.typepad.com\/jasmynecannickcom\/ilovela.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106248 size-thumbnail\" title=\"FBI served a subpoena against the LA school district\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ilovela-1.gif?resize=73%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"FBI served a subpoena against the LA school district\" width=\"73\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ilovela-1.gif?resize=73%2C75&amp;ssl=1 73w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ilovela-1.gif?resize=146%2C150&amp;ssl=1 146w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 73px) 100vw, 73px\" \/><\/a>The <a title=\"LA Times\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>LA Times<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"Federal grand jury subpoenaed documents from L.A. Unified\" href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/lanow\/la-me-ln-fbi-agents-take-ipad-documents-from-la-school-district-20141202-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that the <strong><a title=\"Federal Bureau of Investigation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">FBI<\/a> served a subpoena<\/strong> against the <a title=\"Los Angles, CA\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=34.05,-118.25&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=34.05,-118.25%20(Los%20Angeles)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LA<\/a> school district which compelled America&#8217;s second-largest school district to cough up 20 boxes of documents related to the flawed iPad project, to a <strong>federal grand jury<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The subpoena asked for documents related to the bidding process as well as to the winning bidders in the <strong>$1.3-billion poorly planned project.<\/strong> The subpoena, which was provided to <em>The LA Times<\/em>, is part of a wide-ranging investigation is looking into records related to Apple and Pearson that predate the bidding process or that involve other projects. The article says the documents sought include all kinds of documents:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>&#8230; score sheets; complete notepads, notebooks and binders; reports; contracts; agreements; consent forms; files; notices; agenda; meetings notes and minutes; instructions; accounting records\u201d and much more.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20121102010243\/http:\/\/www.gepdmc.com:80\/2012\/10\/why-planners-love-ipads\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106250\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipads_walking-1.jpg?resize=99%2C57&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"99\" height=\"57\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipads_walking-1.jpg?resize=75%2C43&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipads_walking-1.jpg?resize=150%2C86&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipads_walking-1.jpg?w=498&amp;ssl=1 498w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 99px) 100vw, 99px\" \/><\/a>The article notes that the morning after the FBI seized the documents, Supt. <a title=\"Ramon C. Cortines\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ramon_C._Cortines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">Ramon C. Cortines<\/a> said he was <strong>shelving the contract<\/strong>. He denies that decision was based on the surprise visit by the FBI.\u00a0Supt. Cortines told the <em>LA Times<\/em>;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>We&#8217;re not going to use the original iPad contract anymore. I think there have been too many innuendos, rumors, etc&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>The grand jury process has recently developed a <a title=\"Missouri AG confirms Michael Brown grand jury misled by St. Louis DA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/story\/2014\/12\/04\/1349421\/-Missouri-AG-Confirms-Michael-Brown-Grand-Jury-Misled-by-St-Louis-DA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credibility<\/a> problem in the US. So who knows what they will find in this case.
