In a flash of rationality, Gideon D&#8217;Assandro, a spokesperson for the Republican majority, said new <strong>questions about jurisdiction<\/strong> and proposed immunity for wireless providers have popped up. D&#8217;Assandro told <em>MLive<\/em>, \u201c<em>\u2026 There&#8217;s still questions.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.osha.com\/michigan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-99001 \" title=\"privacy proponents\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan5-11.png?resize=89%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"privacy proponents\" width=\"89\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan5-11.png?w=134&amp;ssl=1 134w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan5-11.png?resize=67%2C75&amp;ssl=1 67w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 89px) 100vw, 89px\" \/><\/a>The legislation, sponsored by Republican Rep. Kurt Heise of Plymouth Township, has prompted push back from some conservative lawmakers and <strong>privacy proponents<\/strong> in the state Legislature after advancing out of committee last month. &#8220;It&#8217;s been a <strong>heated discussion<\/strong>, a passionate discussion, just about the <strong><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Civil liberties\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civil_liberties\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener wikipedia noreferrer\">civil liberty<\/a><\/strong> issues that are all wrapped up in this,&#8221; said Rep. Cindy Gamrat, R-Plainwell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><em> My concern is \u2026 we&#8217;re <strong>setting precedent<\/strong> authorizing government to access our technology devices, such as phones or computers or GPS in cars. Todd Courser, R-Lapeer, said he understands the value that location information could offer in some emergencies but made clear that he could not vote for the bill in its current form. He told <em>MLive<\/em>,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I think we also need to make sure we&#8217;re giving people the constitutional protections that are supposed to be afforded by our founding fathers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In typical goobermental double-speak, Heise, the sponsor of the bill to legalize <strong>NSA-style\u00a0phone snooping<\/strong> in Michigan told <em>MLive<\/em> that allowing <strong>warrantless access to private citizens&#8217; phones<\/strong> could actually strengthen civil liberty protections. Heise even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlive.com\/lansing-news\/index.ssf\/2015\/02\/emergency_cell_phone_location.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> <em>MLive<\/em> he does not think that notifications for cell phone owners who the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Michigan\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=44.34,-85.58&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=44.34,-85.58 (Michigan)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation nofollow noopener noreferrer\">State of Michigan<\/a> snooped is necessary.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_99006\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.otrcat.com\/politicians-corrupt-dirty-and-otherwise-p-50490.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99006\" class=\"wp-image-99006\" title=\"I am not a crook\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/thumbsupnixon.jpg?resize=300%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"I am not a crook\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/thumbsupnixon.jpg?resize=150%2C100&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/thumbsupnixon.jpg?resize=75%2C50&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/thumbsupnixon.jpg?w=700&amp;ssl=1 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-99006\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Warrant-less access to private citizens phones could actually strengthen civil liberty protections<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Of course, law enforcement groups and Verizon (<a title=\"NASDAQ : VZ\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NYSE-VZ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VZ<\/a>) indicated support for the proposal to gain even more access to citizens\u2019 private information.
