\"iPad<\/a>Readers of Bach Seat<\/em><\/a> should remember the botched\u00a0$1.3 Billion iPad deal<\/strong> the USA’s second-largest school district made with\u00a0Apple<\/a> (AAPL<\/a>). rb-<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0I covered the massive failure here<\/a> and here<\/a><\/em>. Well, it seems that buyer remorse has finally set in.<\/p>\n

The LA Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is reporting that the Los Angeles Unified School District<\/a> is now demanding a multi-million dollar refund from Apple<\/strong> or they may sue their former partner<\/a>. In a letter obtained<\/a> by LA public radio KPCC<\/a>, to Apple’s general counsel, David Holmquist, LAUSD attorney wrote,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>While Apple and Pearson promised a state-of-the-art technological solution for ITI \u00a0implementation, they have yet to deliver it … \u00a0the vast majority of students are still unable to access the Pearson curriculum on iPads …\u00a0will not accept or compensate Apple for new deliveries of [Pearson] curriculum<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Others have called this deal an incompetent, unconscionable betrayal of LA<\/strong> by people who are so ignorant about technology it\u2019s scary to imagine them responsible for anyone\u2019s education.<\/p>\n

Margot Douaihy documents<\/a> the\u00a0shameful history, which has included firings, resignations, an FBI<\/strong> investigation<\/a>, an SEC<\/strong> investigation<\/a>, and the $22 million \u201cd\u2019oh\u201d moment when district officials realized for the very first time that iPads<\/a> don\u2019t come with keyboards.<\/p>\n

\"incompetent,<\/a>The LA Times<\/a> also reports that a top lieutenant of former LAUSD Supt. John Deasy and architect<\/strong> of the district’s flawed and now-abandoned $1.3 billion iPads<\/strong>-for-all and new online student records system is now taking the helm of the Burbank school district<\/a> at $241,000 a year. Why?\u2014because Burbank BoE believes they need someone with business savvy<\/a> to sort out their technology.<\/p>\n
