The <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business Insider<\/a><\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/hp-to-cut-another-25000-30000-jobs-2015-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> these cuts will be focused on HP&#8217;s Enterprise Services Division, the consulting arm of the company.<\/p>\n<p>During <strong>CEO <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megwhitman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Meg Whitman<\/strong>&#8216;s<\/a> tenure, HP has <strong>let go 85,000<\/strong> workers with this latest round of layoffs. And they aren&#8217;t over yet <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160422234126\/http:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/2984983\/layoffs\/hps-divide-layoff-and-conquer-strategy-a-challenge-for-managers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claims<\/a> <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CIO.com<\/a><\/em>. Ms. Whitman and CFO Cathie Lesjak said that HP would lay off another 5% of staff.<\/p>\n<h3>Michigan lawsuit<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.talkandroid.com\/215118-microsoft-files-lawsuit-against-samsung-for-android-royalty-payments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-119847\" title=\"State of Michigan is suing HP\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/lawsuit.jpg?resize=109%2C82&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"State of Michigan is suing HP\" width=\"109\" height=\"82\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/lawsuit.jpg?resize=150%2C112&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/lawsuit.jpg?resize=75%2C56&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/lawsuit.jpg?w=323&amp;ssl=1 323w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 109px) 100vw, 109px\" \/><\/a>More bad news as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State of <strong>Michigan<\/strong><\/a> announced it is <strong>suing HP<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michigan&#8217;s Secretary of State<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Ruth_Johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ruth Johnson<\/a> is charging HP with failing to deliver on a $49 million contract after 10 years, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20191031070023\/https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/minewswire\/0,4629,7-136-3452-365111--,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a> from the state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercecio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>FierceCIO<\/em><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160109050932\/http:\/\/www.fiercecio.com\/story\/new-suit-michigan-says-its-spent-ten-years-27m-and-hp-has-delivered-nothing\/2015-09-25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that the project was supposed to replace a legacy mainframe system that has run 131 Secretary of State offices. However, since 2005, and after $27.5 million was paid to the company, the state said that <strong>not a single promised function was delivered<\/strong>.\u00a0In the press release she states:<\/p>\n<div id=\"librarydrawer_story_container\" class=\"panel-pane pane-small-library-offer\" style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u00a0I inherited a stalled project when I came into office in 2011 and, despite our aggressive approach to hold HP accountable and ensure they delivered, they failed &#8230; We have no choice but to take HP to court to protect Michigan taxpayers.<\/em><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-116937\" title=\"Michigan\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan_logo-3.png?resize=99%2C110&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Michigan\" width=\"99\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan_logo-3.png?resize=134%2C150&amp;ssl=1 134w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan_logo-3.png?resize=67%2C75&amp;ssl=1 67w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/michigan_logo-3.png?w=380&amp;ssl=1 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 99px) 100vw, 99px\" \/>The state alleged that following a set of failed negotiations over the past few months, it rescinded its contract on Aug. 28 with a <strong>termination for cause<\/strong> letter. The article says the state argued, according to the terms of the contract, HP was supposed to provide support services for the state for some extended period of time. The state said that, instead, HP employees stopped reporting as of Aug. 31.<\/p>\n<p>HP responded to a request for comment from <em>FierceCIO<\/em> with the following email statement: &#8220;<em>It&#8217;s unfortunate that the state of Michigan chose to terminate the contract, but HP looks forward to a favorable resolution in court.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>HPE 3PAR<\/h3>\n<p>On the product side, HPE has updated the software that runs all of its HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage products to boost the performance of its SAN and other storage products an HP <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210418130032\/https:\/\/www8.hp.com\/us\/en\/hp-news\/press-release.html?id=2067927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">presser<\/a> announced.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eweek.com\/blogs\/storage-station\/hp-updates-3par-storeserv-for-block-file-object-storage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-119848\" title=\"HP 3Par logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hp_3par-e1629211500987-147x150.jpg?resize=108%2C110&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"HP 3Par logo\" width=\"108\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hp_3par-e1629211500987.jpg?resize=147%2C150&amp;ssl=1 147w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hp_3par-e1629211500987.jpg?resize=73%2C75&amp;ssl=1 73w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hp_3par-e1629211500987.jpg?w=191&amp;ssl=1 191w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 108px) 100vw, 108px\" \/><\/a>One of the changes to the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150905054432\/http:\/\/www8.hp.com\/us\/en\/products\/data-storage\/primary-storage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HP 3PAR<\/a> Operating System. HP has added a new feature in the HP <strong>3PAR<\/strong> Priority Optimization software. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160612163303\/http:\/\/www.fierceenterprisecommunications.com:80\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fierce Enterprise Communications<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160424101153\/http:\/\/www.fierceenterprisecommunications.com\/story\/hp-increases-performance-3par-storeserv-products\/2015-08-26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that the software now enables users to set specific latency goals as low as 0.5 milliseconds in the hopes of ensuring consistent performance levels in multi-tenant environments. The intention is to boost the <strong>quality of service<\/strong> for improved application performance.<\/p>\n<h3>VMware support<\/h3>\n<p>For data protection, HPE also added support for <strong><a title=\"VMware\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vmware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VMware<\/a><\/strong> (<a title=\"NYSE : VMW\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=718288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VMW<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/company\/news\/releases\/vmw-newsfeed\/Introducing-VMware-vSphere-6---The-Foundation-for-Hybrid-Cloud\/1920294\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vSphere 6.0<\/a> with VMware Virtual Volumes to StoreOnce Recovery Manager Central for VMware. The update also includes more <strong>granular recovery<\/strong> of individual virtual machines and files, simplifying data recovery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180303215750\/https%3A\/\/www.vmware.com\/content\/dam\/digitalmarketing\/vmware\/en\/files\/images\/wmrc\/VMware_logo_blk_RGB_72dpi.jpg?resize=121%2C42&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"VMWare\" width=\"121\" height=\"42\" \/><\/a>With these changes, another <em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160612163303\/http:\/\/www.fierceenterprisecommunications.com:80\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fierce Enterprise Communications<\/a><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160430041518\/http:\/\/www.fierceenterprisecommunications.com\/story\/hp-offer-consulting-support-services-vmware-nsx\/2015-08-31\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> observes that HP is getting cozier in its relationship with VMware as the company unveiled new consulting and support services for <a href=\"http:\/\/searchvmware.techtarget.com\/definition\/VMware-NSX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VMware&#8217;s <strong>NSX<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180912095258\/https:\/\/searchsdn.techtarget.com\/definition\/software-defined-networking-SDN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SDN<\/a><\/strong> product.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s actually a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150919074615\/http:\/\/www8.hp.com\/us\/en\/hp-news\/press-release.html?wireId=1980192&amp;pageTitle=HP+Delivers+New+Products+and+Services+for+VMware+Environments%2C+From+Desktop+to+Datacenter+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">laundry list<\/a> of new aspects of the two companies&#8217; partnership, according to the article. The partnership includes a variety of HP services and products that tie into different VMware software-defined data center and end-user computing products, but the networking aspect comes in the form of HP Network Virtualization Services.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ethicsalarms.com\/2015\/03\/07\/ethics-quote-of-the-month-dan-savage\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/ethicsalarms.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/03\/man_thinking.jpg?w=368&#038;h=450&#038;fit=368%2C450&#038;resize=70%2C86\" alt=\"Consulting \" width=\"70\" height=\"86\" \/><\/a>The consulting and support services will be available starting in January 2016. According to an HP announcement at <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210515150627\/https:\/\/www.vmworld.com\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VMworld<\/a>, the services were &#8220;designed to transform and operate the network when combining physical and virtual network resources, functionality and management to ready a network for virtualized cloud, network functions virtualization or SDI.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>HP plans to implement a novel idea by <strong>putting consulting and support services<\/strong> under the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150906033729\/http:\/\/www8.hp.com\/us\/en\/networking\/sdn\/network-virtualization.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HP Network Virtualization Services <\/a>umbrella to provide a 24\/7\/365 single place to connect with networking, virtualization, and NSX experts in the hopes of quickly resolving issues.<\/p>\n<h3>Security changes<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microfocus.com\/en-us\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-119849\" title=\"HP Fortify logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fortify_logo.png?resize=109%2C34&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"HP Fortify logo\" width=\"109\" height=\"34\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fortify_logo.png?resize=150%2C47&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fortify_logo.png?resize=75%2C23&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fortify_logo.png?w=196&amp;ssl=1 196w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 109px) 100vw, 109px\" \/><\/a>On the <strong>security<\/strong> front, HP\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150905202656\/http:\/\/www8.hp.com\/us\/en\/hp-news\/press-release.html?wireId=1981129&amp;pageTitle=HP+Protects+the+Digital+Enterprise+With+New+Security+Analytics+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> new enterprise security tools that can detect communications between malware and a remote server as well as uncover bugs in enterprise software using <strong>machine learning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The first called HP DNS Malware Analytics, uses an algorithm to detect enterprise machines infected with malware by analyzing <strong>Domain Name System<\/strong> traffic between the devices and remote servers according to a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercecio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FierceCIO<\/a><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160321121547\/http:\/\/www.fiercecio.com:80\/story\/hps-new-enterprise-security-tools-detects-malware-phoning-home-software-bug\/2015-09-02\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a>. A<span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2041273031\">\u00a0o<\/span>ne-year subscription to HP DMA starts at $80,000 to analyze up to 5 million DNS packets per day.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/frankmong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frank Mong<\/a>, vice president of solutions at HP Security, claims,\u00a0&#8220;This solves the problem of finding an infected host that has been missed by anti-virus and endpoint security&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>HP also introduced <strong>HP Fortify scan<\/strong> analytics, machine-learning technology, as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microfocus.com\/about\/press-room\/article\/2017\/micro-focus-completes-merger-with-hpe-software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HP Fortify on Demand<\/a>, which uses an enterprise&#8217;s app security data to improve the accuracy and efficiency of <strong>app security<\/strong>.\u00a0This technology integrates into existing app security testing workflows, increasing the efficiency of the app security audit process and the relevancy of findings, HP explained.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Color me skeptical but I&#8217;m not sure that HP is the best horse for VMware to bet on in their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/chambers-cisco-is-going-to-crush-vmware-2014-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">battle<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161107023230\/https:\/\/www.crunchbase.com\/organization\/vce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">former partner<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cisco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cisco<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-CSCO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CSCO<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a title=\"Ralph Bach\" href=\"https:\/\/rbach.net\/index.php\/new-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ralph Bach<\/a>\u00a0has been in IT long enough to know better and has blogged from his\u00a0<a title=\"Bach Seat\" href=\"https:\/\/rbach.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bach Seat<\/a> about IT, careers, and anything else that catches his attention since 2005.
