During the giving season, you need to <strong>stay vigilant<\/strong> and protect those that are not so tech-savvy from fraudsters who want to <strong>rip you off<\/strong> during this season of goodwill. Cyber thieves can use <strong>social networking<\/strong> sites and <strong>mobile devices<\/strong> to solicit <strong>fake donations<\/strong> to take advantage of your charity.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Experts<\/a> recommend that no matter how they reach out to you, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usps.com\/welcome.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">post-office<\/a>, <a title=\"Faceboo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a>, email, phone, or text, avoid any charity or fundraiser that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spnnetworks.com\/2013\/12\/how-to-avoid-holiday-cyber-scams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-105384\" title=\"ake advantage of your charity\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hacker_santa.jpg?resize=143%2C95&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"ake advantage of your charity\" width=\"143\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hacker_santa.jpg?resize=150%2C100&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hacker_santa.jpg?resize=75%2C50&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/hacker_santa.jpg?w=250&amp;ssl=1 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 143px) 100vw, 143px\" \/><\/a><strong>Refuses to share<\/strong> detailed information about its identity, mission, costs, and how the donation will be used.<\/li>\n<li>Won&#8217;t give proof that a contribution is tax-deductible.<\/li>\n<li>Uses a name that <strong>closely resembles that of a better-known<\/strong>, reputable organization.<\/li>\n<li>Thanks you for a pledge you don\u2019t remember making.<\/li>\n<li>Uses <strong>high-pressure tactics<\/strong> like trying to get you to donate immediately, without giving you time to think about it and do your research.<\/li>\n<li>Asks for donations in cash or asks you to <strong>wire money<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Offers to send a courier or overnight delivery service to <strong>collect the donation immediately<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Guarantees sweepstakes winnings<\/strong> in exchange for a contribution. (By law, you never have to give a donation to be eligible to win a sweepstakes.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To slow down the cyber-thieves, take the following <strong>precautions<\/strong> to make sure your donation helps the causes you want to help and not the scammers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask for <strong>detailed information<\/strong> about the charity, including name, address, and <strong>telephone number<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Get the exact name of the organization and do some research.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Call the charity<\/strong>.
