The <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business Insider<\/a><\/em> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tech-companies-have-lower-effective-tax-rates-than-others-2015-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reporting<\/a> that most of the American <strong>tech giants<\/strong>, like Apple, Google and Microsoft are <strong>not paying their share of taxes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" about 35%, but according to an analysis by financial research website <a href=\"https:\/\/wallethub.com\/edu\/2014-corporate-tax-report\/16339\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WalletHub<\/a> and charted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Statista<\/a>, the effective tax rate paid by U.S. tech companies, like <a title=\"Apple Computers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : AAPL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AAPL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAPL<\/a>), <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ | MSFT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/finance?cid=358464\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSFT<\/a>), and <a title=\"Google\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : GOOG\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-GOOG\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOG<\/a>), was <strong>well below the 28.6% average rate<\/strong> paid by the 100 biggest S&amp;P companies.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <a title=\"Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a><\/strong> (<a title=\"NASDAQ : FB\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-FB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FB<\/a>) was the exception with an effective tax rate of 41%, but the social networking company has paid a higher rate in past years and recouped some of the money in <strong>tax deductions<\/strong>, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/qz.com\/142032\/why-is-facebooks-tax-rate-so-much-higher-than-its-competitors\/?utm_content=COTD&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Sailthru&amp;nr_email_referer=1&amp;utm_campaign=Post%20Blast%20%28sai%29:%20Tech%20giants%20are%20paying%20a%20lot%20less%20tax%20than%20some%20of%20the%20biggest%20companies%20in%20the%20US&amp;utm_term=Tech%20Chart%20Of%20The%20Day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Quartz<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/4172\/tax-rates-paid-by-tech-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-105213\" title=\"Infographic: How Much U.S. Tech Companies Pay in Taxes | Statista\" these tech giants are lowering their tax bills is by stashing most of their profits overseas, where lower international tax rates apply. Despite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/tim-cook-says-notion-that-apple-avoids-taxes-is-political-crap_5677639ae4b0b958f6571279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claims<\/a> by <strong>Apple<\/strong> CEO Tim Cook, that Apple pays all of its taxes, Apple, for example, keeps most of its cash offshore, and openly says it&#8217;s keeping it overseas to<strong> avoid their U.S. corporate tax bills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"177\" data-total-count=\"338\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161213193811\/https:\/\/secure.38degrees.org.uk\/pages\/tax_dodgers_guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-105217 size-medium\" title=\"Tax dodger\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tax_dodger.jpg?resize=150%2C84&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Tax dodger\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tax_dodger.jpg?resize=150%2C84&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tax_dodger.jpg?resize=75%2C42&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/tax_dodger.jpg?w=434&amp;ssl=1 434w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>The <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Times<\/a> <\/em>recently <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210309022519\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/12\/31\/technology\/apple-settles-tax-dispute-with-italian-authorities.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> that <strong>Apple made a deal<\/strong> with <strong>Italian tax authorities<\/strong> over a dispute about how much tax the iPad maker should have paid Italy. A spokesman for <a title=\"Italy\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=41.9,12.4833333333&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=41.9,12.4833333333 (Italy)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Italy<\/a>\u2019s tax authority declined to comment to the <em>NYT<\/em> on the amount of owed taxes but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>BBC<\/em><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-35197547\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> that the figure is \u20ac318m (<strong>$348m<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"225\" data-total-count=\"563\">The investigation found that since 2013, Apple had moved roughly <strong>$1.1 billion in revenue<\/strong> from its Italian operations through an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220620212816\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/04\/29\/business\/apples-tax-strategy-aims-at-low-tax-states-and-nations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Irish subsidiary<\/a><\/strong> to lower the taxes that the company was obliged to pay under the 27.5% <a title=\"Corporate tax\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Corporate_tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia nofollow noopener noreferrer\">corporate income tax<\/a> rate in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>NYT<\/em> says Ireland\u2019s corporate tax rate, at 12.5%, is one of the lowest in the Western world, compared with 35%, before deductions, in the United States. Of course, Irish officials deny that the low-tax structure represents unfair competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Tech Titans have long lusted after a tax cut.
