Thanks to one of the small bits of transparency in the gooberment, the <a title=\"United States House of Representatives\" href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage nofollow noopener noreferrer\">U.S. House of Representatives<\/a> requires companies to file <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lobbying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">government lobbying<\/a> records. You can search their disclosures here at the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20191226040843\/http:\/\/disclosures.house.gov\/ld\/ldsearch.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of the Clerk of the House<\/a>. Google spent <strong>$16.6 million<\/strong> in 2015 vs $16.83 million in 2014. The biggest spending tech firms spent over <strong>$122M lobbying Washington<\/strong> politicians.<\/p>\n<h3>How the tech titans spent their money<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Google: $16.6 million in 2015 vs href=\"http:\/\/www.att.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">AT&amp;T<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : T\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:T\" target=\"_blank\" in 2014.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151220021911\/http:\/\/www.bidnessetc.com\/40707-tech-giants-google-inc-apple-inc-amazon-microsoft-corporation-and-comcast-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" noreferrer\">reminds<\/a> us that these may seem like big numbers, they&#8217;re a tiny part of these companies&#8217; overall expenditures \u2014 in the third quarter of 2015, Google spent $3.47 billion on traffic acquisition costs (such as the price of its deal to stay the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/apple-google-advertising-revenue-split-2016-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">default search on Apple&#8217;s iPhone<\/a>), and another $6.93 billion on other operating expenses.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>I haven&#8217;t written about the tech&#8217;s industry lobbying efforts since <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-ZG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2010<\/a>. Many of the names have remained the same, ATT, Verizon, Google, IBM, Yahoo, and Intel have been <del>bribing<\/del> lobbying the gooberment for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/resources\/learn\/lobbying_timeline.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">very long time<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>However, just 5 years ago, Apple and Facebook were barely in the lobbying racket.\u00a0 In 2015, they both ranked at the top in lobbying spending.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><a title=\"Ralph Bach\" href=\"https:\/\/rbach.net\/index.php\/new-resume\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ralph Bach<\/a>\u00a0has been in IT long enough to know better and has blogged from his\u00a0<a title=\"Bach Seat\" href=\"https:\/\/rbach.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bach Seat<\/a> about IT, careers, and anything else that catches his attention since 2005.
