At its peak, it had annual revenues of almost $400 million and more than 1,000 employees. Ruckus was the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150720035656\/http:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/2905266\/wireless-networking\/ruckus-first-to-roll-out-enterprise-80211ac-wave-2-ap.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">f<strong>irst firm<\/strong><\/a><strong> to roll out enterprise<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wi-fi.org\/news-events\/newsroom\/wi-fi-certified-ac-brings-new-advances-in-wi-fi-performance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> 802.11ac Wave 2<\/a> <\/strong>AP. The company&#8217;s products powered high-profile public Wi-Fi installations, such as New York City&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.link.nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LinkNYC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201119235526\/https:\/\/ruckuswireless.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-102734\" title=\"Ruckus Wireless\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ruckus_logo-e1567385336676-75x47.jpg?resize=100%2C63&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Ruckus Wireless\" width=\"100\" height=\"63\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ruckus_logo-e1567385336676.jpg?resize=75%2C47&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ruckus_logo-e1567385336676.jpg?resize=150%2C94&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/ruckus_logo-e1567385336676.jpg?w=293&amp;ssl=1 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/a>In April 2016, San Jose, CA-based <strong>Brocade purchased Ruckus Wireless<\/strong> in a deal worth about $1.5 billion. Brocade is most famous for data center <a href=\"http:\/\/searchstorage.techtarget.com\/definition\/SAN-switch-storage-area-network-switch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAN switches<\/a> and a player on the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180710033838\/https:\/\/searchsdn.techtarget.com\/definition\/network-functions-virtualization-NFV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NFV<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180912095258\/https:\/\/searchsdn.techtarget.com\/definition\/software-defined-networking-SDN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SDN<\/a> scene. Brocade planned to add Ruckus\u2019s Wi-Fi products to its enterprise networking business.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the purchase, Brocade CEO Lloyd Carney said, &#8220;<em>The acquisition will strengthen Brocade&#8217;s ability to pursue emerging market opportunities around 5G mobile services, Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Cities, OpenG technology for in-building wireless, and LTE\/Wi-Fi convergence.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brocade.com\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-102737\" title=\"Brocade Networks logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/brocade_logo.jpg?resize=99%2C50&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Brocade Networks logo\" width=\"99\" height=\"50\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/brocade_logo.jpg?resize=75%2C38&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/brocade_logo.jpg?resize=150%2C76&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/brocade_logo.jpg?w=250&amp;ssl=1 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 99px) 100vw, 99px\" \/><\/a>Ruckus changed hands. Irvine, CA-based chipmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadcom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Broadcom<\/strong><\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/NASDAQ-AVGO\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AVGO<\/a>), which supplies to phone vendors purchased Brocade for $5.9 billion. But the chipmaker said it plans to <strong>divest the Brocade IP networking business<\/strong> that consists of wireless networking, data center switching, and software networking offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Brocade CEO Lloyd Carney wrote on the company\u2019s website. \u201c<em>In terms of our IP Networking business, due to competitive overlap with some of Broadcom\u2019s most important customers, Broadcom will seek a buyer for the business.<\/em>\u201d The Ruckus product line <strong>competes with industry titans like Cisco and Apple<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Broadcom<a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadcom.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-102739\" title=\"Broadcom logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broadcom_kogo-1.jpg?resize=101%2C54&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Broadcom logo\" width=\"101\" height=\"54\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broadcom_kogo-1.jpg?resize=150%2C80&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broadcom_kogo-1.jpg?resize=75%2C40&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Broadcom_kogo-1.jpg?w=480&amp;ssl=1 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 101px) 100vw, 101px\" \/><\/a> CEO Hock Tan said in a press release, \u201c&#8230; we will find a great home for Brocade\u2019s valuable IP networking business that will best position that business for its next phase of growth.\u201d It seems Broadcom has found a firm willing to take Ruckus off their hands.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"article-text\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180707102735\/https:\/\/www.fiercecable.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FierceCable<\/a><\/em> is <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170706084713\/http:\/\/www.fiercecable.com:80\/cable\/arris-reportedly-set-to-bid-1b-brocade-network-edge-unit?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reporting<\/a> that <strong>cable set-top box manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/networking\/commscope-completes-once-in-a-lifetime-arris-ruckus-acquisition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arris<\/a><\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcrwireless.com\/20191209\/network-infrastructure\/after-arris-acquisition-commscope-realigns-business-segments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ARRS<\/a>) is in talks with Broadcom to pay around $1 billion for Brocade\u2019s wireless network edge business &#8211; i.e Ruckus Wireless. The article says Arris CFO David Potts told investors that the vendor might transition into serving the wireless needs of its customers. <strong>Arris client, Comcast<\/strong> is developing a wireless service based on its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.makeuseof.com\/tag\/what-is-an-mvno-and-how-does-it-save-money-on-your-cellular-bill-makeuseof-explains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MVNO<\/a> relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizonwireless.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Verizon<\/strong><\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/networking\/commscope-completes-once-in-a-lifetime-arris-ruckus-acquisition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-102742 size-medium\" title=\"Arris logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/arris_logo.png?resize=150%2C15&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Arris logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"15\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/arris_logo.png?resize=150%2C15&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/arris_logo.png?resize=75%2C7&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/arris_logo.png?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Reports are that Arris does not want to buy other parts of the business being divested by Brocade.
