The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2018\/08\/19\/snyder-michigan-broadband\/37535563\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Detroit News<\/em><\/a> is reporting that <strong>Snyder<\/strong> announced a plan to make universal access to high-speed internet available throughout Michigan. <em>(<strong>rb-<\/strong> Just like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/news\/flint\/index.ssf\/2018\/02\/um_report_gov_snyder_bears_sig.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">safe drinking water in Flint<\/a>?)<\/em> Snyder\u2019s office says the Michigan Consortium of Advanced Networks (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/documents\/snyder\/EO_2018-2_612457_7.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MCAN<\/a>) sets the path for improving access and adoption of broadband.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatlakesproud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"30th michigan availability broadband for in nation noopener ranks the noreferrer\"><\/a>Synder&#8217;s minions say that Michigan currently ranks <strong>30th in the nation<\/strong> for broadband availability. More than <strong>350,000 households<\/strong> \u2013 mostly in rural areas \u2013 lack access to high-speed internet service. Another <strong>two million households<\/strong> only have access to a single, terrestrial internet service provider.<\/p>\n<p id=\"article-body-p-last\" class=\"p-text p-text-last\">Their <strong>meaningless election year<\/strong> recommendations include calling for greater investment in broadband to improve the community and economic development. They are also promoting and building awareness for low-cost broadband subscription programs.<\/p>\n<p>Among the groups involved in this <strong>election year boondoggle<\/strong> is a who&#8217;s who of soft-money PAC contributing <strong>network neutrality haters<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2017\/12\/14\/fccs-ajit-pai-revealed-as-total-buffoon-after-making-bonkers-video-ridiculing-net-neutrality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-98622\" title=\"telecom santa\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ajit-Pai.png?resize=112%2C90&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"telecom santa\" width=\"112\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ajit-Pai.png?resize=150%2C121&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ajit-Pai.png?resize=75%2C61&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ajit-Pai.png?w=503&amp;ssl=1 503w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 112px) 100vw, 112px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2018\/02\/att-claims-that-paid-prioritization-wont-create-slow-lanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AT&amp;T<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dslreports.com\/forum\/r31765512-Loss-of-Net-Neutrality-CenturyLink-Already-Screwing-Customers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CenturyLink<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/12\/15\/16768088\/internet-providers-plans-without-net-neutrality-comcast-att-verizon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charter<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/theyoungturks\/comcast-spends-millions-in-lobbying-on-net-neutrality-without-their-news-networks-disclosing-their-499b3d9cb6dd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Comcast<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmusicnews.com\/2017\/12\/19\/comcast-cox-frontier-net-neutrality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frontier Communications<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2017\/7\/26\/1684222\/-On-Net-Neutrality-the-U-S-Chamber-of-Commerce-again-sides-with-Big-Business-over-Consumers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michigan Chamber of Commerce<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/5\/2\/15520818\/verizon-net-neutrality-craig-silliman-truth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Verizon<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As proof these groups have <strong>failed to make broadband available to the citizens of Detroit<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circleid.com\/posts\/20180608_detroit_memphis_and_miami_amongst_worst_connected_cities_in_the_us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>CircleiD.com<\/em><\/a> points us to the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalinclusion.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NDIA<\/a>) report. The NDIA found that <strong>Detroit is the second-worst connected city in the U.S.<\/strong> NDIA ranked all 185 U.S. cities with 50,000 households by the total percentage of each city&#8217;s households lacking fixed broadband internet subscriptions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ciktelecom.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/22\/what-are-the-reasons-solutions-for-slow-internet-speed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"slow internet noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Slow internet\" src=\"https:\/\/ciktelecom.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/02\/slow-internet.jpg?resize=99%2C99\" alt=\"Slow internet\" width=\"99\" height=\"99\" \/><\/a>The study used data from the 2016 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/programs-surveys\/acs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Community Survey<\/a> (ACS), released by the U.S. Census Bureau. NDIA notes, &#8220;<em>The term &#8216;Fixed broadband Internet&#8217; as used by the Census includes wireline broadband technologies (<strong>cable Internet, DSL, fiber to the premises<\/strong>) as well as satellite and &#8216;fixed wireless&#8217; technologies &#8230; It does not include 3G and 4G mobile services such as one purchases for a smartphone, or non-broadband connections like dial-up modems.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NDIA says this data is not an indication of the availability of home broadband service, but rather of the <strong>extent to which households are actually connected<\/strong> to it. NDIA focused on fixed broadband subscriptions in this comparison of household connection rates, because the strict <strong>data caps<\/strong> common to mobile Internet services make mobile much less useful for general household Internet access.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wittygeek.blogspot.com\/2015\/07\/broadband-internet-in-india-welcome-to.html?m=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-114859\" title=\"Internet slow lane\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/slow_lane.png?resize=75%2C100&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Internet slow lane\" width=\"75\" height=\"100\" 56w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/slow_lane.png?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/a>Other Michigan communities in the study included <strong>Warren<\/strong> which ranked 86th nationally with 56.7% of households disconnected and <strong>Grand Rapids<\/strong> which came in at 107 nationally with 29.4% of its households off the
