Followers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/rbach.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bach Seat<\/a> will <a href=\"http:\/\/rbachnet.wwwmi3-ss40.a2hosted.com\/index.php\/avaya-goes-chapter-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recall<\/a> that Avaya <strong>declared bankruptcy<\/strong> in 2017. Now the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220616151844\/https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-avaya-hldg-m-a-exclusive\/exclusive-telecom-equipment-provider-avaya-considers-leveraged-buyout-sources-idUSKCN1R50PR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buzz<\/a> is that Santa Clara, California-based telecommunications equipment and software firm is considering a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestreet.com\/markets\/mergers-acquisitions\/what-is-leveraged-buyout-14832477\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>leverag<\/strong>ed buyout offer<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.avaya.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"avaya logo noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Avaya logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talkingpointz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/edd\/2016\/02\/Avaya_logo.png?resize=92%2C64&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Avaya logo\" width=\"92\" height=\"64\" \/><\/a>Reports are circulating that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avaya.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Avaya&#8217;s<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:AVYA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AVYA<\/a>) board of directors is evaluating an offer from an unnamed <strong>private equity firm<\/strong>. Reportedly the offer values the Lucent spinoff at more than <strong>$20 per share<\/strong>, people in the know told Reuters. The private equity firm values Avaya at more than $5 billion, including $3.2 billion in debt.<\/p>\n<p>Avaya is one of the world\u2019s largest providers of <strong>telephony systems<\/strong>. It was spun off from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Lucent-Technologies-Inc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucent Technologies<\/a> Inc in 2000, which used to be part of <a title=\"AT&amp;T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.att.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">AT&amp;T<\/a> (<a title=\"NYSE : T\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyse.com\/quote\/XNYS:T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T<\/a>). The LBO comes 15 months after Avaya emerged from <strong>bankruptcy protection<\/strong>, with a $8.3 billion debt legacy from a previous leveraged buyout by private equity firms <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2007\/06\/04\/news\/companies\/avaya\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TPG Capital and Silver Lake in 2007<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-92263\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/UCaaS-1.jpg?resize=150%2C107&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"unified communications as a service\" width=\"150\" height=\"107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/UCaaS-1.jpg?resize=150%2C107&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/UCaaS-1.jpg?resize=75%2C54&amp;ssl=1 75w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/UCaaS-1.jpg?w=299&amp;ssl=1 299w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Avaya has tried to shift its revenue model to focus on <strong>cloud-based<\/strong> communications solutions with <strong>recurring software and subscriptions<\/strong> fees and not its traditional hardware business. Its legacy business is becoming more commoditized and dated. Much of Avaya&#8217;s new focus involves cloud services like unified communications as a service (<a href=\"https:\/\/searchunifiedcommunications.techtarget.com\/definition\/UCaaS-Unified-Communications-as-a-Service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>UCaaS<\/strong><\/a>) and Contact Center as a Service (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180324034959\/http:\/\/searchcrm.techtarget.com:80\/definition\/contact-center-as-a-service-CCaS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CCaaS<\/a>). A new Device as a Service (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uctoday.com\/endpoints\/avaya-delivers-device-as-a-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DaaS<\/a>) offering has also surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>Avaya\u2019s <strong>contact center<\/strong> business has also attracted <strong>acquisition interest<\/strong> in the past from <strong>private equity firms<\/strong>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdr-inc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clayton Dubilier &amp; Rice LLC,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/hf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hellman &amp; Friedman LLC<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.permira.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Permira Advisers LLP<\/a>. Hellman &amp; Friedman and Permira own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Genesys<\/a> an Avaya competitor.<\/p>\n<p>As of September 2018, Avaya had about 8,100 employees worldwide, including 2,800 in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Private equity firms have recently focused on communications businesses. Among those companies are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nojitter.com\/ccaas\/aspect-has-new-owner-and-updated-ccaas-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aspect Software<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nojitter.com\/mitel-goes-private\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitel<\/a>,\u00a0 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nojitter.com\/ucaas\/pgi-extends-services-portfolio-ucaas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PGi<\/a>, each privately held by such firms.
