From the drop-down menu, select &#8220;Settings.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>In the &#8220;Settings&#8221; page, select &#8220;Account.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>In the column next to \u201cAccount,&#8221; click \u201cManage <a title=\"Social advertising\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_advertising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">Social Advertising<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Uncheck the box next to \u201cLinkedIn may use my name, photo in social advertising.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Now check the new default settings under &#8220;E-mail Preferences&#8221; and &#8220;Groups, Companies &amp; Applications.&#8221; Make sure to opt-out of &#8220;Data Sharing with 3rd-party applications&#8221; as well.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the face of\u00a0negative user reactions and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20111224145751\/http:\/\/technolog.msnbc.msn.com:80\/_news\/2011\/08\/11\/7348288-linkedin-says-it-wont-use-members-photos-in-ads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a<\/a> <a title=\"online.wsj.com\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110814163222\/http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424053111903918104576502861571332954.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">growing<\/a> <a title=\"gigaom.com\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220128091734\/https:\/\/gigaom.com\/2011\/08\/11\/memo-to-linkedin-copying-facebook-has-its-downsides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">media<\/a> <a title=\"venturebeat.com\" href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2011\/08\/11\/linkedin-social-ads-pictures-removed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">firestorm<\/a>, LinkedIn has decided to make a change in the policy. That\u2019s a <a title=\"nakedsecurity.sophos.com\" href=\"http:\/\/nakedsecurity.sophos.com\/2011\/08\/12\/linkedin-responds-quickly-to-complaints-about-social-ads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">step in the <\/a><a title=\"brandimpact.wordpress.com\" href=\"http:\/\/brandimpact.wordpress.com\/2011\/08\/12\/linkedin-listens-reconsiders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">right direction<\/a>. <em>I have written about social networking&#8217;s assault on privacy <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-vP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>, <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-117\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>, and <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-oV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>rb-<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Even though LinkedIn has <a title=\"www.linkedin.com\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.linkedin.com\/2011\/08\/11\/social-ads-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">backtracked<\/a> on this it still irks me. I believe that most people on LinkedIn are working on their professional brand and do not want to be associated with ads. Facebook is for kids who don&#8217;t care, LinkedIn was for professionals. This seems like LinkedIn is wasting the goodwill they\u2019ve built up over the years as it tries to justify its $9 billion <a title=\"Initial public offering\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Initial_public_offering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">IPO<\/a> valuation.
