The patent &#8220;<a title=\"www.uspto.gov\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20181109182503\/http:\/\/appft.uspto.gov\/netacgi\/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;d=PG01&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;s1=%2220110188677%22.PGNR.&amp;OS=DN\/20110188677&amp;RS=DN\/20110188677\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Using an Audio Cable as an Inductive Charging Coil<\/a>,&#8221; is available at the <a title=\"www.uspto.gov\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Patent Office website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>T<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106911 size-thumbnail\" title=\"Apple logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/apple_logo-8.jpg?resize=67%2C75&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Apple logo\" width=\"67\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/apple_logo-8.jpg?resize=67%2C75&amp;ssl=1 67w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/apple_logo-8.jpg?resize=135%2C150&amp;ssl=1 135w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/apple_logo-8.jpg?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 67px) 100vw, 67px\" \/><\/a>he patent application in typical Apple style, calls for a &#8220;wireless&#8221; charging solution that uses wires. Apple wants to use headphone wires rather than supplying a power cable. The wired wireless charging system includes a tower that would sit atop your desk. According to <a title=\"www.mit.edu\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MIT&#8217;s<\/a> <em><a title=\"www.technologyreview.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.technologyreview.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Technology Review<\/a><\/em>, to charge an iPhone, specially designed earphones must be wrapped around the tower multiple times. Other opinions are &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2011\/08\/04\/witricity-demos-apples-wireless-imac-charging-station-concept\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Incredibly impractical<\/a>,&#8221; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20181112193130\/https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5828054\/why-apples-inductive-charging-patent-for-iphones-is-a-red-herring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ridiculous<\/a>,&#8221; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2011\/08\/04\/apples-inductive-charging-patent-application-finally-put-its-ea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">like an iPhone scratching post<\/a>,&#8221; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150911185730\/http:\/\/www.maclife.com\/article\/news\/published_apple_patents_reveal_two_inductive_charging_solutions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tolkien-esque<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.witricity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-106917 size-full\" title=\"WiTricity logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rbach.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/witricity_logo-1.gif?resize=135%2C30&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"WiTricity logo\" width=\"135\" height=\"30\" \/><\/a>TR<\/em> and <em>Gizmodo<\/em> believe this patent application is a &#8220;red herring&#8221; and Apple has other things in mind. Back in May 2011, <a title=\"www.macrumors.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>MacRumors<\/em><\/a> <a title=\"www.macrumors.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2011\/07\/06\/apple-experimenting-with-new-way-of-charging-for-2012-iphone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">noted<\/a> Apple&#8217;s interest in WiTricity, As <em>MacRumors<\/em> pointed out an international patent application filed by Apple which cites the original MIT paper as the foundation of WiTricity&#8217;s business plan.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>rb-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>I have already covered wireless <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">electricity<\/a> a <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-cx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">couple<\/a> of <a title=\"rbach.net\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p2wgaW-1O4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">times<\/a>. The obelisk charging patent is so out of character for Apple design that I believe it is a head-fake.
